I went back to Kell's funeral for Ix's description (altho' we didn't have her name yet) & am appreciative of the description update posted by Scott on the website. I've been making my own records & it's nice to have it all in one spot for everyone. Will have my update in later today & will try to be less confusing (altho' it's hard when so much seems to need to be done at once, especially for a new member of your team - heeheehee) GM: Ack. Folks can update/add to the file as needed. From Raddok: [Re: Actions] re: Upate #19 - Raddok [approx. 3 PM - recap of previous 1/2 hour] (chronologically, Raddock had 1st spoken to Arwan re: horse/gear, then to Dorhak /group to introduce himself, then to Z'leyra re: learning language.) [OOC: sorry about the confusion; thought I was clear. From now on, I'll be more careful to post chronologically, or at least say "just before…¦," or after talking to…"] [3 PMish] Raddok, leaving Z'leyra, remembered that, at some point, it... "Arawn, I know you need to focus on getting Ix to her... GM: Ack. Your fine posting as is. It is hard for such the amount of posts. From Mournath: [Re: Description] Mournath is deeply tanned with the weathered skin of one who spends much time beneath the sun. He stand 5'5" with broad shoulders and a torso that is as long as his legs, giving him the appearance of being shorter than he is. Long black hair is wept back into a braid, held in place with a copper clasp. Streaks of iron-white stand out in his black hair at the temples and in his close-cropped beard. His green eyes are always lost in thought and he is often seen scribbling into a journal that he keeps of his travels. sorry I haven't been posting as much but I am keeping up with what is going on. Work has been hell and working 3rd shift doesn't make things easier. For actions, Mournath accepts the position of navigator and will take time (if able) to make sure we have good maps of the seas and coasts of the area we are traveling to. He also takes a bit of time to ransack the captain's cabin for tools of the trade that might be needed : charts, compass, etc GM: Ack. No problem. Stuff happens. I hope you're feeling better now or at least are on your way towards recovery. And sorry for the delay on my end as well. I've been juggling quite a bit and had to take care of things in batches when I could squeeze in the time. IC: [Time 1:55pm} Arawn's brow furrowed ever so slightly, his voice... Perhaps you can hold this necklace away from me while I do so..." ] OOC: So was the spell cast so all present know what the man looks like that sold out the dwarves? [Time: 2:15 pm] [Fremea... Unless something is needed, she will take.... "Do you think you can ask Kaylle if he has or knows ... OOC: Berths: As the plan is leave first thing in the morning I imagine that there won't be any time to work on adding berths unless some of the crew/PC's are skilled in carpentry. With 13 berths and 16 on board I suggest that berths are shared between day and night shifts, that way everyone is able to sleep in shifts. But Arawn should be able to make minor adjustments once at sea, with the proper tools (he'll ask Kiet to purchase these and reimburse him later), to have hammocks that can be set up and taken down if extra beds are needed. Dorhak, what do you think? Navigation: Arawn, being nocturnal by nature, will take over navigation duties at night. Can Water Powers - Friendly Current be used as sea to speed up the journey? Although not clearly stated I imagine it would not but if you rule otherwise Arawn is up for casting during times when we need to avoid storms or dangerous encounters, during a dead-calm, or if we seemed pressed for time. Otherwise he's happy to experience the sea in a natural state. Gear: I'll let you know shortly what, if anything, Arawn is leaving behind as well as any items he'd like to purchase before. Afterwards I'll need an updated CS. Right now I still only have my pre-IBT CS. Arawn's Tasks: Guiding Raddok - As posted publicly by Bessie, hopefully Kiet or another PC will do this. Working on berths - Will skip this for now. He can work onthis at sea, assuming tools and skilled assistance is available, and people can use hammocks or sleeping bags until then. However, I suggest people just rotate bunk use between day and night shifts with clean sheets in between. Take dwarves to village - Will do. Take Ix to Kaz - Will do. Remove smell from ship - This should have been done between 11:10 and 3:00. If you decide against allowing him to have done this during that time then Arawn will just write up a cleaning formula/list and leave it for the rest of the party and the 4 sailors to take care of in his absence. So he should really only be working on 2 things, taking Ix and the dwarves to Baru. And if there's time he could work on cleaning the ship but hopefully everyone else who isn't in the middle of anything will pitch in to help as this benefits everyone. So it looks like he should be taking from between 4-10 hours of time and will return that night or, at latest, a bit before dawn Marentia time. Other tasks that could delay things or can try and do in the morning - Speak with the dead captain, possibly the dead guard who died away from the ship (if accessible); Ceremony for a blessing and Baru work Questions for Dorhak and the Group: What's the itinerary - as in ports of call along the way? Will maps be included with supply shopping? Or gear to rework/maintain the ship while on board if we want to alter things or change name/appearance? Do we have access to Sea Powers among the members of our group? Scott, what's going on with Shifter-Kell? Will he be part of the group and, if not, are any NPC's currently mentoring or keeping an eye on him? GM: Ack. Image? Who knows. I only got a request for it I saw no actual actions to it or the spells involved. Odd I send Post-IBT sheets. You replied to the email with the changes and the CS was attached to that. Odd. Shifter is too powerful got enough pcs now. So no not joining. As to keeping an eye on him he'll be fine. :) Not much one can babysit a shifter who can elude just about any eyes. From Z'lyera: [Re: Necklace] Z'leyra will have her staff assist as needed in getting supplies for the ship. She spends an hour artistically marking and braiding a leather necklace with some symbols folded within the knots. She collects and at her purified area enhances some of her saliva for the upcoming ritual and then spends the great deal of mana to make another Necklace of Language Learning (Tongues) using all of her assists to make it work the first time (Divinations, Luck, Staff, Purified Area). Choosing which equipment to bring she makes sure to be at the ship at dawn. GM: Ack. Send me the spell info since I don't want to assume anything on my own. Thanks. From Kiet [Re: Slavery] Kiet listens to Raddok as he talks about his skills..... GM: Ack. ------------------------------------------------------------- [New Stuff] [Marqi Frisda 23rd, 1636TH; Sivas, Marentia] [Time: 12:28 pm] While the others did other duties or left the ship Arawn went to tackle the awful smell. The door has been open up for a few hours so that does help. But it has also moved slightly into the second deck. But that should fade once a breeze comes from sailing. But the hold will not even with the top hatch open. Damon spent time with Arawn talking how ships are normally cleaned. "Fishing trawlers are especially stinky. But the crew frankly live with it. But at the end of the season to prevent rot and infestations of bugs as the ships sit in port for the down time they do clean it as best they can. It is usaully old fashioned buckets, soap and solvents of some kind that cleans the stains. I'm no expert. But the general store I and Dorhak entered should have the usual supplies for such." Arawn heads to the store and buys a set of cleaning supplies. Apparently the sailors use some form of abrasive plant fibers that mixed with a acidic source like wine helps clean stains. But too much can ruin the wood so the clerk explains just enough to use. Once back on ship Arawn asks if any one wants to join him in the effort. For those who are still aboard it seems they oddly find things to do. So Arawn has to the bulk of the work alone. [Time: 1:10 pm] Arawn wishes he could have one of those spell abysmals that get rids of his sense of smell. But in the end he uses the time to pray and contemplate the entire situation. The entire ritual of cleaning is cathartic as well as good exercise. Most of the smell is the cages itself. The floor and bars. The bulk of the hold is not affected directly. Arawn then pulls out a tiny bottle of perfume and places 1 each in the two cages. He enters the first cage and creates a Ball Power sphere spell. In this one using the perfume to replicate he creates a giant ball of perfume - though slightly diluted with air - and lets it dissolve. He then creates another ball in the second cage. This makes it flowery. To add to this Arawn adds 2 small bundles of flowers near the cage for better smell. Then finally carefully with seeing Kiet using them, lights a set of incenses in small bowls. [Time: 1:55 pm] Arawn reacts to Fremea's comments on freeing the slaves. Arawn's brow furrowed ever so slightly, his voice steady as he voiced a comment. "It's good that the slaves are freed. But sometimes the end doesn't justify the means. We can't be aware of everything in a situation but when time permits we should consider proceeding thoughtfully, to minimize future fallout. Hopefully we can move forward with that in mind." He said no more after this, not wishing to have Fremea feel cornered, and saved his other thoughts for later. [Time: 2:14 pm] Arawn and Fremea talk about condition of survivors. Compassion and concern were married on Arawn's face. "It just might be nice in the future, both for success of a mission and as a sign of respect for your friends, to work with us instead of separately, at least when we are present. I know you're smart enough to see the merit in this and hope that you can work past your training as a solo agent to truly consider this. And I'm glad you're okay. And neither am I here to scold you, especially not now that I see you recognize that things could have been done differently. Your words on deck, in front of the others had me concerned, but I appreciate the more thoughtful response. And, odd as it might sound, I'm glad you're not happy about the situation. Not because I want you to feel this way but because a lack of it is a terrible thing. Rationalization and growing apathy are the road people take towards becoming the monsters we face. You've been through too many traumas and I don't want such a path for you. And it would be a terrible thing for the world if you did because you are a very dangerous individual. But aside for my feelings for the sailors, not the guards, - I'm concerned for their souls, where they've been banished to - I'm concerned about their families. The emotional damage can't be avoided but I worry that their situations could suffer, especially if the sailor was a primary source of income for them. Destitution, homelessness or enslavement might await them if fortune turns its back on them, a far too common fate in this world. But I know you're fighting to make the world a better place for the likes of them." His face softened as he paused, holding the faerry's attention with his eyes. "I know there's little guarantee beyond the honor of their surviving sailing companions and the hope of a responsible harbourmaster in their home port that this should reach those in need but I'm planning on sending reparations/wergild through Damon to help remaining family, especially any children. If you wish to add to this it would be a good thing for them, for the soul, for us to take accountability, and balance things out in the eyes of the dead and the gods. The coin isn't much for ones like us but it could make a world of difference for them." Damon crosses his arms and sighs while briefly glancing at Unali. "We moved this ship not to cause...a incident. If you go about giving coins...while its a noble thing...it will cause their families to ask questions. Surely the sailors told them they were bound for here. I may not be as worldly as you guys. But even I can figure out the connection. If they died here it will cause a diplomatic nightmare. If they find out we covered it up..which we are...without any arrests things will have to be done by the King. Bad things. Like arrests and deportation and such. Are you willing to risk that for just a few coins to the family who knew the risk? I do respect the act but just be aware of when you return from this trip to Vahear that you aren't arrested." Then he realizes the idea. "As I could be since I was involved..." [Time: 2:15 pm] Before Fremea leaves to visit kids, parents and Kaylle. "Do you think you can ask Kaylle if he has or knows anyone selling a language course book on how to R/W Fomorian? And, if we don't have one already," he adds, making sure everyone else hears him. "Can you see if he has a nautical map we can use for this journey? I'll reimburse you or can give you coin now, whichever you prefer." [Time: 2:42 pm] Raddok, leaving Z'leyra, remembered that, at some point, it had sounded like Kiet was being put in charge of gathering supplies, & approaches Arawn again. "Arawn, I know you need to focus on getting Ix to her friend's home. I'll ask Kiet if I can accompany him gathering supplies, & try to arrange retrieving my horse & getting it to - uh, Unali's? - estate, as you suggested. I'll take my horse's gear there, too. Then I can help him, in return, by carrying supplies, or with other errands. "Thank you for all your help, & have a quick & safe trip & we'll see you tomorrow." (he offers his hand to shake, as a new comrade) [The elf somewhat awes him still. He feels lucky that most of whom he's met so far had been quite kind - and had not killed him outright.] (Raddok then seeks out & approaches Kiet.) "Kiet? Did I understand that you would be sort of in charge of gathering supplies?" (Raddok pauses briefly for the man to nod.) "I want to offer you my services in helping to gather, or at least carry, supplies for you. I pack things pretty well, from being a teamster over the years. But, I also need to collect my horse from Mygone's stable, & would like to take him, & my horse gear, over there on the deck (he indicates with a directional node of his head where is all his gear is stacked) , to that estate of - is it Unali's? - my horse can help carry anything to the estate, if needed, also - although he's a warhorse, I think he's mellow enough to carry a load on his saddle. (He pauses for a quick breath.) "Would it be possible that you could help me with that? The rest of my time is all yours, for as long as you need me. If you stay at the estate tonight, so will I. If you are planning on returning here by tonight, so will I, and willingly carry whatever I can." (He looks, hopeful - & mentally crossing his fingers - at Kiet.) Raddok tells Arawn he'll go with Kiet. A pleasant look rested on Arawn's face, though he seemed to pause for the briefest of moments when Raddok's hand was extended. It was an odd custom to him, but one that he recognized existed in certain cultures in the Middle World and was meant as a positive gesture. Reaching out to grasp it he said, "Hopefully Kiet can accompany you. He's good company. And thank you for understanding. But I'll see you when I get back." Damon comments on who will take dwarfs back home. Arawn replies, "So Damon or me? If I take them, can you ask if they speak any other languages so we can communicate while together? Ba'ru, perhaps?" [Time: 3:15 pm] Kiet listens to Raddok as he talks about his skills. He perks up at the mention of being a teamster. This is great, Kiet thinks to himself. He won't be the only wagon driver for the group as long as Raddok is around. However, Kiet sneers at the suggestion he makes about sucking up to the Fomorians while there. Sadly, he understands all too well why, it just is demeaning and severely grates on Kiet. Kiet will just have to look at it as another opportunity to act. If he can be Zhou's 'servant' for that long trek, he can do this. Besides, he relishes the opportunity to mess with the Fomorians. Kiet also listens to Fremea. That girl is going to get herself or someone killed being that impetuous. These people donâ't seem to realize that slavery exists in most of the world. Certainly that was true back home. He may never understand that motivation. Kiet will be plenty happy to let Z'leyra gather the supplies, but Kiet thinks he might add a few small things. Kiet intends to purchase about a dozen hammocks, which are perfect for using on board the ship, and comfy too. They will be perfect also to alleviate some of the sleeping space issues. In adequate Donaran, Kiet says to Raddok "Sure. Come along with me. We can gather your things and you can help pick out some supplies for the trip." Many have left to find supplies and their homes. Arawn finally finishes the hours of conversations with folks. He moves down to the hold to check It is much better from a gag-on-sight-to-throw-up to a dog on a wet day smell. So it is improving. It still may take a day or two to get it back to normal smell. Arawn finds the dwarves eager to leave. They were told they were heading home by Damon but now magic will be used by Arawn to be home almost instantly. Some are nervous on this but more eager to return home. Arawn collects the dwarfs, Ix and the wolf. Then heads to the docks and gets his horse. He explains what he will do magic wise and hopes they understand. Arawn then translocates the group to the cemetery Kell was buried in. Between 4 large tombs. The chances of anyone using it at this time of day are low. Ix explains she can't just see the path to Kaz but the wolf knows it. But the dwarf elder points to the west and seems to indicate their village is there. Arawn decides to take the dwarves first. [Time: 3:42 pm] After a bit of trekking while Ix rides the wolf and Arawn rides the horse the dwarves find their bearings. They enter a ravine between some hills. They pass through the light woods and a small stream. Tucked to the north east of this ravine is the village. It was once open but now it seems it is abandoned. Discouraged the dwarves search the area and search the nearby cave. A cave they used to store food and supplies. There they find the rest of the dwarves. A heartfelt welcome is given by the females and young offspring of the dwarves. But it seems the men the enslaved were taken by the Fomorians. But now they are all back. Arawn notices at the sight of humans or elf the survivors cower. It takes almost 15 minutes before they even come into full view. [Time: 4:13 pm] The Elder Dwarf thanks the Alfar. Dorhak warned Arawn that the dwarves would probably find a new home just in case. So what you see now is only short term. The dwarves offer drink and some bread. [Time: 4:33 pm] Arawn had hoped to spend a bit more time. But it was clear the other dwarves did not welcome non dwarf company anymore. They learned that 3 females died trying to help their male allies as the slavers entered camp. Arawn tries to give honor and prayer but the language barrier is a issue. Arawn tells Ix to find Kaz and the wolf begins to search. [Time: 4:52 pm] The wolf has trouble so Arawn suggests finding a road and using that. This helps and from the road the wolf quickly picks up the landmarks and scent. [Time: 5:29 pm] The sun is starting to set and finally Arawn spots a cabin miles away from the nearest homestead deep in the hills. Ix knocks and Kaz opens the door. Ix smiles but Kaz just says, "about time you come back. Did you get my sugar?" Ix explains what happens and Kaz welcomes Arawn inside. Arawn can sense some magic from the man but it is old and not used much as if unused for years. The three drink tea and enjoy the evening. Actions? Comments? Next Update....Saturday? GM: Two updates in a week wonders never cease! Unsure if next will be Saturday or next week (probably next week). I just did a quick one to move us along. The Ba'ru stuff is minimal since it was side stuff that may be flashed out by Ix/Arawn as needed. Figured I'd get this out before the slew of posts came in. :) Updated pclooks file for Mournath's data. I assume Dwarf is welcome to stay with party? Still unsure on these supplies who is paying and what supplies. To this effect... GM: I've added 2 new links to my site. At very bottom. First is a simple text file on the Vahear agenda and trip time. There are a few cities along the way so this could help plan supply runs. In this file I posted possible length of times for each destination. So one may plan on supplies and such. This does not assume magic. To this end the question on Water Powers does help for Sea but at HALF its value as listed. Second map is a cropped image of travel map. Sivas is at the top right. Vahear island is center bottom of map. The coast from Sivas to Dechat will be taken per Dorhak's order. This will reduce pirates but may increase other random encounters. If you have quetions on these 2 links ask. Once w finally leave Sivas I'll write up the set of encounters. GM: Arawn - Ba'ru stuff was minimal. I could've spent another day on it but figure best to get update out tonight. Sorry. Forgot the speak to dead thing. Remind me in next email what spells are done this for. Keep in mind the results of the Div spell. :) All others - be sure to settle all Hotel, estate rents and fees before leaving. Can include 'X months of Y' in the gear emails to me.
