Having spent a lot of her life not knowing much at all, she can understand, but she was also trained to take care of what needed to be done now and deal with everything after. She knows that some of these sailors may have children and that it will be hard to have them taken care of. "Yes, here is some gold to help in whatever way you see fit." She hands Arawn 4 gold pieces. -------- After the ship disembarks, she works to find a good place to sleep (mostly during the day, though that will not always be the case). There really isn't any good places, so she just picks the hold, since there is an easy way out. She also makes sure that her two bows are in good places to get to one of them in case of attacks, along with a full quiver in each spot and secured. She will finally learn the seaman skill too, just since this is the second time she will be on a ship and at this point, who the hells know if she won't be again. ---------------- At their first port of call, she will disguise herself, since she does not know how this populous will be towards her kind and disembarks to get some fresh fruits and vegetables. Once the necklace is available (first availability) she will learn the Bhamotin from either Kiet or Z. ------------------- When she hears the yell of something coming aboard, she will grab her bow and quiver as she flies out of the hold and assess the situation. If there is something fire at she will (closest enemy to her), then seeing that she could hit one of her crew, she will use her daggers to fight close quarters, using her wings to keep her balanced. GM: Ack. Hold as in front hold or hidden smugler's hold in back? Regular hold has 2 exits (stairs and cargo shaft to top deck that is closed when raining). Smuggler has a hidden hatch but is much hotter. However being smaller person you could probably handle the heat far more than humans. You do have those nice built in fans on your back. :) Seaman - You can learn it but as you fly you aren't affected by the loss in power. It is only when your standing on deck. You could probably fly upside down firing bows and using daggers with ease so if you don't wan seaman let me know. You learn Bhamotin on Apris 5th (future from now). You are probably the best speaker so far in it. From Raddok: [Re: Actions] Game Update #28 - File #285 - Raddok always armed [OOC: I thought the months were only 30 days long & posts had Marqi with 31 days. As per the posted schedule (with the extra day), I have selected the weapon(s) Raddok would have for this day (Apris 4). [IC] Raddok has received not just a fighting dagger, but a throwing one from Z'leyra. He secretly hopes to pay her back for at least some of the cost, but is very grateful that his few coins are still intact. After learning about the loss of fighting skills on board ship, has asked Z'leyra if he could focus on learning Seamanship for the first two weeks at sea, then explains to Kiet that he had decided to delay learning dagger skills until they were on dry land. He has spent every day learning Seamanship. Raddok is taking advantage of the offer to learn swimming while in port, and spends a bare hour in the water, learning how to float and the basic strokes. He feels fatigue (after all, he is learning seamanship as well) after that, so knows this will be a slow process - but at least he can keep his head above water along the wharf. Raddok has worn a weapon every day, whether on board ship or not. [OOC: I'm keeping a calendar/schedule] As Raddok has come along on this trip offering his fighting skills, as well as mining, he feels an obligation to use those skills, so is always wearing a weapon, in its belt sling (both mace & sword have belt slings), even while undergoing seamanship training. He rotates the weapons he carries daily, and is wearing his mace on Apris 4th (the day of the attack). He is not wearing armor, due to the heat, but since he's got the mace, he also has his shield out, sitting on top of his weapons locker nearby, covered by his quilted armor to keep the sun from heating it up too much to handle. His leather armor is in the locker with his sword today. When Raddok (top deck, midship) perceives the first invaders, he leap to a stand, draws his mace and scrambles for his shield, which is on top of the locker nearby (also top deck, midship). If a merman is within reach, he will strike at the merman first, then head for the shield. He will avoid turning his back on the attackers, and will move at a sideways scramble toward the shield. He will also give out a very loud yell for attention. [OOC- I figure this uses up the 2 phases, if only 6 seconds long. I figure he won't reach the shield to slip it in place until the 3rd phase (or 4th, if delayed by mermen) - another 6 seconds? --This is only if his plan is not forced to be changed by whatever is going to happen next. If I'm off on figuring the time, let me know & add more as per what I've already written here.] GM: Ack. Even though I'm using Burton's calendar system I still use the core days for my sanity. Marqi=March = 31 days. So on. Granted it would be easier for 30 days. But for just ease of records I use our total days. Here's the thing on wearing said weapons. As GM I have to go with data I already have. If it wasn't posted up to this point I can only assume what is practical and normal. When I had Raddok on ship at stat he only had book and apple. No weapons. As a mere passenger it'd be suggested to store gear. I mean what if wave hits and someone stumbles and falls on your mace in your belt? Since this is the first I heard about worn weapons this is a hard situation for me. Its like in a month X monster attacks. Player comes up that day 'I wear my X monster killing amulet that day' yet to this point never did. For me as GM this is a proactive for a active situation. If I had known this stuff below I'd have no issue. But since you are new and I don't know your SOP like I do some of the old players I'm stumped. To me if you are doing chores for the ship carrying around a mace and shield in both hands is just silly to carry/move stuff. Sure one can put on back or belt. But it seems silly to me. Its like Z wearing her great sword even in a sheath on belt seems a bit overboard. But holding a third hand-her staff is kind of normal for her as a caster. Same with Unali with daggers she would feel naked without her daggers. That sop I've learned. So I've talked it over with a fellow GM. Our best options are to have in locker nearby than the room or on you but need time to move/don it. I've rolled d100 and based each option 50/50. It came up to be locker. So you'll have to move to locker and get it. I hope you understand. Now in future if you want to wear all your weapons please say so. I'll allow it. Just let me know. I think this solution is better than moving down stairs to get gear. :) Hope you understand. Tell you what! I'm a nice GM....sorry had to go bea t down my dwarf staff they were snickering. I'll do it not in locker but as you say on top of locker. That would make more sense. So its at reach if needed but not worn as you work. So it will take time to get and don. From Pyan: [Re: Actions] [Marqi 27th] Pyan reaffirms(If I remember correctly I Agree to it before) to Arawn's Battlemind magic, after all he already trusted magic to put a language in his head and that seems to a much more invasive operation than choreographing ones movements. [Marqi 29th] Pyan doesn't let the failure of the necklace get him down, He inquires with Z'leyra and Arawn about giving him lessons. After he rechecks with Z'leyra that the necklace works with bird languages he reserves the next available day (Mar 30th?) and continues trying with the necklace until he learns to speak Eagle thou he lets other have first take on the necklace if they have a language to learn. He keeps an eye out for any other eagles besides Corona that the party may happen across to try out his skills with. [Apris 4th] Pyan is trying to find the coolest place on the ship out of the sun, when the attack begins. The only weapon he has on him is a knife or fork left over from lunch. If he survives this he will be sure to always keep a dagger on him. GM: Ack. Thanks. Nice post. Your longest to date! Good job. Arawn will have to remind me who he includes in his BM spell as I'll probably forget. Besides IBT listed below do you want to learn anything else or just Eagle? I like that ending funny visually fighting with a fork against a trident welding merman. ;) From Z'leyra: [RE: Actions] Casting through her staff Z'leyra casts Astral Web to catch any enemies near her in its web. She calls "Don't hurt the webbed ones!" Note that she will be defensive...using her skill with a warstaff to reduce the chance of a foe injuring her. Next she triggers the Speed spell on her boots and goes to hit any mermen that look likely to hurt party or crew. GM: Ack. Don't hurt them? Hmmm. No EL l so assume EL0. From Kiet: [Re: Scroll] During the first leg of trip, or whenever suits Scott's story In the rush to get under weigh, Kiet actually forgets about the coded scroll until he goes rummaging in his locker for the battle horns. After taking the horns topside and securing them at various points fore, aft, and amidship (middle), Kiet goes below back to his locker. He takes out the scroll and contemplates it a bit. Obviously coded...but is there anything else...? Kiet, being the paranoid guy he is, er, being the cautious man he is around other people's magic, decides to cast first a Max EL Detection of magical traps, then a max EL detection of Ward, then a max EL detection of curse, then max EL Detection of Ensorcellment that attacks the reader/user...booby traps, in other words. After this, Kiet will cast a max EL Decode and see if it is a language he can read. If not, he will take the scroll around and ask the other party members...not the borrowed crew. GM: Ack. This will be fun! From Dorhak: [Re: Actions] Dorhak, as a dwarf, doesn’t really understand what a ship's captain really does. From the looks of things, he just gives orders for other people to make them do things. He's wondering why these humans think it’s such a difficult task. during his own 'self' time there is little to do for training himself. He offers up 4 hours a day to anyone wanting to train in mace or shield. Speaking of mace, he tends to keep it with him always, sort of like a baton of authority, tucked in his belt. His shield is usually left in his quarters, and it’s been far too warm to wear armor. After all, we've come this far without serious problems. What could go wrong? (His other spare time not spent asleep can be spent doin 4hours of miscellaneous captain things, and eight hours learning seamanship. ) Besides, Dorhak can’t swim or even float too well. Wearing armor seem like wearing an anchor around his neck Dorhak, while he can’t read, can see a map and understand what is what. He's studying a chart wanting to make sure of the route. Avoiding the ports that several have said might be wise to avoid seemed like good council. It also seems a more direct route. Dorhak is hoping that he sees movement in his windows from the maurading creatures. Either way, when the alarm sounds our fearless Captain Dorhak shall grab mace and shield and head immediately toward the thick of the battle. is that enough detail Scott? GM: Ack. So 4 hrs teaching, 8 learning Seamanship, 8 sleeping and 4 hours captain duties. Sounds fine! I figure you stand on deck laughing at the silly humans trying to swim in the odd water knowing sharks are nearby. You probably grumble fools alot? :) But this is a good post. From Mournath: [Re: Actions] [to GM] actually the 'fishing' was being done with my spear, so I was hoping that would count as spear(throwing) practice during my downtime? If not, no sweat and I'll pick up a fishing skill. Mournath prepares for the attackers by grabbing his shield and spear and tries to keep the invaders from coming onto the boat in the first place by using the spear's length to push them off before they can board. GM: Ack. Good point on the fish spearing. Would need a very study rope/line as if you get a agile fast fish you could lose the spear so best NOT to use the magical ones if you have any. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] Arawn accepted respectfully, knowing that it was a... "Thank you. I think it will go far, for their families... GM: Ack. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] Battle Mind: Cool. I'll put you on my list of pre-approved PC's for the spell. Currently it looks like it's just you and Raddok but that works. Arawn usually gives a hand signal or rattles on his buckler before casting to alert players that he's going to cast it (if we're already in the middle of combat, as talking to alert you eats up combat phases). [Marqi 29th] Arawn gives Pyan a warm smile when the hunter... "I'd be happy to, though it might be slow going... GM: Ack. Could say "Going to do a BM!" No. Maybe they think need latrine? Nevermind. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] OOC: Assuming Kiet doesn't figure the scroll out on his own, if it reaches Arawn he'll cast Code/Decode at max EL using the wand (rerolling any failures). He'll then translate as best he can for Kiet. GM: Ack. From Ix: [Re: Actions] [Apris 4th, 1636TH] [Time: 12:18 pm] Ix had spent all morning on deck, having found a safe... OOC: Yahoo started sending the pnp emails to my spam flder. ost from Arawn on actions... GM: Ack. Opps deleted top section on not speaking. Don't worry about interruptions. Ship life is VERY boring with a good 12+ hours of boredom at a time. So convo is very rel ieving. Sword? Thought you were doing only Dance? So you are doing Sword and Dance? Let me know so I can update the chart. As to Yahoo that happens quite often as does gmail. Those are to me IMHO the worst emails out there for such heavy email traffic. I get bounces all the time from those but never from more ISPcentric emails like comcast or such. So I always recommend using your ISP's email if able to. From Unali: [Re: Actions] When Unali sees the two mermen (18,19) climbing the side, she will draw her daggers and try to cut the ropes they use to scae the ship. If they make it onto deck she will attack to kill them. She has seen these monsters before and they were intent on killing then, so she ill not try to subdue, but kill instead. She will start using two daggers offensively. GM: Ack. I figured. :) From Raddok: [Re: Actions] IC: In the few seconds that Raddok's heading for his shield, with his mace in hand, he will be quickly scanning the deck to see who else is on deck to meet these invaders & will see Ix, if the lockers are not blocking his sight of her. He does not know much about her, but he shouts out an alarm to get the crew's attention & to be sure she is also aware of trouble. GM: Ack. ------------------------------------------------------------- [New Stuff] [Marqi 23rd, 1636TH] [Sivas, Marentia - Shortly after ship battle] After Arawn 'talks' to her, she understands that he really does not like not knowing everything. Arawn palms the coins and knows that that gold could pay 2 months of a sailor's life. Arawn accepted respectfully, knowing that it was a significant thing for the former slave to do such a thing. He gave her a compassionate smile as he added them to his own offering to be given to Damon to deliver. "Thank you. I think it will go far, for their families but also for you, in the eyes of the gods. I'll offer prayers for you and, when we return to Sivas, physically substantial offerings to your orphanage." [Marqi 25th, 1636TH] Kiet remembers the strange scroll found in his locker in his room. Kiet pulls the scroll out and examines it. It is indeed coded magically. First he casts a detect ward on it to ensure nothing will happen. As the spell finishes Kiet jumps as he swore he heard a half snicker. He turns around but no one is there. Kiet checks the hallway but no one is there. Is this ship haunted? Finally Kiet returns to the scroll and detects no ward or just the detect fails and he doesn't know it failed. Next Kiet casts a detection of magic on the scroll to sense magic. The scroll glows blue but then he realizes it is magically sealed! So of course he detects magic. But in his case he tried to detect a trap. Course traps is a vague term. A trap to a wolf is different for a blind mole. But Kiet senses nothing. Then he jumps again! He swears this time he hears a voice say "seriously?" Kiet checks the hallway again and pulls his dagger. This is getting creepy. No one is around. Maybe Fremea is playing a prank on him! But no! it sounded like a male voice? He may be cautious but he is also very curious so Kiet moves on. Kiet casts a detect of curses and finds nothing. This time he prepares himself. Sure enough! The voice in his mind or the room says - "so little faith". That voice is familiar. Where has he heard it before? Kiet tries to recall but it doesn't seem to ring a bell. Finally Kiet casts a detection of ensorcellment. He detects nothing but the voice appears again around him or in him. He isn't sure. "Well duh! It was magically coded!" Kiet grins this person is taunting him now. But now he knows the person. Why would he harm him? he clearly has no reason to do so. Finally Kiet casts a decode spell onto the scroll. It quickly shifts letters and unscrambles. Kiet reads it. Whoa! It is in his [Marqi 29th, 1636TH] Pyan asks Arawn if he could help with learning Eagle tongue. Arawn gives Pyan a warm smile when the hunter approached him regarding language lessons. "I'd be happy to, though it might be slow going as I'm juggling quite a bit already," the alfar replied jovially. "But once we're off ship I'd be more than willing to continue to teach you the language of eagles. Horses as well if you like." [Marqi 30th, 1636TH] Pyan tries again to learn Eagle using the necklace borrowed from Z'leyra. Corona looks interested in the hunter. A human who hunts birds like him wanting to learn his language seems so weird to Corona. But after the spell in the necklace is cast Pyan learns Eagle basics. In this case it is very basic at a minimal level. It will take weeks to get to a conversational level other than Kiet reads the letters and smiles. [Apris 3rd, 1636TH] Arawn had hoped to learn Bhamoti the day before but no one knew it until today. Arawn approaches Kiet to learn the language from Kiet. He casts Tongues on himself to learn the Bhamotin tongue. He learns it as to what Kiet has learned successfully [Apris 4th, 1636TH] [Time: 9:41 am] Next Update....Next e-mail! GM: I figure I'll do 2 parts for ease of reading. So part b will have the actual combat stuff. Sorry took so long factors like starting late, storms (2-3 a day), and lots of posts and emails. Emails alone I spent 8-10 hours just replies to. This is like the 4th day I've worked on update so I've tried. But the number of stuff just pilled up. It happens. I have updated my movement chart which hasn't been updated in awhile. A couple of you guys went up in the order due to MR or Agility changes. So when you see the actual movement order that's updated. Though the special boots Z and Kiet have kinda skews that. Remember! If need to change IBT or add to language necklace use let me know.
