[Location: High Elder's domain - Citadel, Dark Lands, Forest] GM: Raban's IBT actions... [Raban and Fremea start to spend a great deal of time over the next 12 days together. Fremea begins to teach him the ways of the Archery Powers. It will take the bulk of the next 12 days to learn the family of spells useful to archers.] [On the morning of Apris 7th, Raban explores the village area and markets. Not knowing the Katai language he can't seem to understand those who speak around him but does know their glares, glances and faces. Some are surprised at his tall height, on average 2.5 feet taller than most and weighing at least 3 times more just about everyone. Some of the women seem to ignore it and swoon at his handsome face. Children seem to find him fascinating but the few elderly avoid him at all costs it seems. Raban takes a break from entertaining and goes to find a tavern to eat dinner around 6:30 this evening. Turning around the corner he notices five figures seem to be arguing with one merchant outside his shop, a hides shop. The merchant and what could be one of his employees or family members seem to be arguing with four others. Words become shouts, shouts become shoves, shoves become almost full fist fight. But before the fists fly the group sees Raban approaching. Suddenly pale three of the men run away. A fourth grabs a item he was arguing over and decides best to run as well. The person helping the merchant slips back into the shop. Raban doesn't find this at all rare. Even in a busy street like Sivas he can simply clear a path by walking straight. The merchant a elderly man in his 50s nods and bows. He speaks a few words but Raban doesn't understand. The merchant then smiles and backs into the shop and closes the door. Raban continues on to the tavern. It seemed to just be a argument over some casual business or intense haggling. As he replays the conversation in his head he realizes some of the words in Katai later. Still trying to get used to the new language he learned. He realizes indeed the fight was over some price for sold glass items and some of them were damaged.] [Apris 7th and 8th, Raban is fitted in the tailor shop for new clothes & more importantly the armor Oby said he'd work on.] [Exploring the lake district, Raban finds the lake rather soothing. It is one thing to sit on the shore of the Sea of Tears but this lake is calm and relaxing in its nature, some might even say magical. Selecting possible future dance places to entertain, it is near 8am. Suddenly he hears a girl's frantic voice in the nearby small woods. Raban goes to investigate and notices two men dressed in light brown tunics pushing a female back and forth between them. Raban can hear them saying things like "..too good for me.." and "..you're mine..". Raban has heard those things before of obsessive men. Raban breaks through the trees and growls as he advances. He suddenly realizes he is picking up that growling habit from ben'dar. The trio seem to be in their early 20s and Raban towers over all 3. One looks up to glare at Raban and says something to the other to warn him. The other looks over his shoulder and glares then his eyes bulge. The man turns around and pulls a shiny knife out just as Raban gets within arm reach. The man swipes the knife in a wild gesture but Raban simply grabs the man's arm and brings the arm down on his gauntlet. The force of the blow makes the man drop the knife. Raban shakes his head and shakes a finger with his free hand of warning. The other man releases the girl and backs away. Most normal men at this point would give up or flee. But Raban has learned from seeing Chion and how men work in general. If they are respected wrong in front of some girl they lose face. To show his bravado or just acting stupid the man tries to swing his fist at Raban's head and misses. Raban sighs and with his free hand reaches out and picks the man up from his belt and with the other holding the man's arm raises him up and then throws him a few feet away. Raban looks up to see the back of the other man running away. That's when the other man now up charges with a rock at Raban. Raban deftly dances to the side and the man rushes past and hits a tree hard. The man falls backwards and Raban picks him up and holds him with a vice grip. The dazed man finally decides to give up. By the time Raban looks back the girl has also fled. Women can be quite generous with their thanks or scared running away. Raban takes the man to the citadel guards and explains what happened. Suca thanks Raban and puts the man into their tiny one room jail. The rumors of low crime must be right but even love can sometimes be exceptional to the power of the Elder's influence in this domain. The other man is later found but the girl doesn't press charges. Another thing Raban has seen in abusive relationships. Love is blind it seems.] [Raban has been one of the most visible party members in the Citadel grounds. He has been all over the village and lake districts entertaining. But at least one day he is seen working on a large bow by the lake. He is also spotted by some entering a tailor's shop a few times and even working in the shop on his own clothes.] [Near 11pm on the 11th, Raban is returning from entertaining in the village. As he is walking on the west road by the west wall of the Citadel he notices a group of 10 peasants approaching. They are walking and have 2 draft horses carrying a small wagon of food and crops. Others have small baskets or push carts. As he passes he notices they speak softly and seem frightened. They glance up at the citadel towers and the looming Wizard's tower in the distance still dark from Ki'ama's absence. He notices they don't even seem to care about him. From the words he gathers it seems they are scared of the Citadel and try not to journey here for trade as often as they should. They must be from another domain. Raban glances at the Tower and realizes this is how the Dark Lands must work. While there might be 3 dozen Masters and maybe five times as many apprentices most are simple peasants who don't use magic. The minority seem to rule through simple tactics of power and fear. Even with few demonstrations of their might the sheer unknown magic some can use and random nature of the Lands must intimidate most peasants. Raban wonders about Chion and his quiet moods. How he can simply show mystery by not speaking. He must have learned that from this place where he was born.] [Eating a late breakfast near 11am, Raban is walking through the village when he hears noises behind him. He glances over his shoulder but sees nothing. This happens at least five more times. Then he hears a familiar noise and turns around this time glancing down. There a single brown cat is looking up at the giant. Raban frowns and wonders what the cat wants. Many others walked by why didn't the cat bother them? He bends down to the cat and it doesn't scamper off. Curious the giant grabs the cat in one large hand and hauls him up into his arms. The cat purrs and begins to snuggle up against his chest. Curious Raban looks around looking for his owner. This clearly is a clean domesticated cat. Raban finds a patrolmen and asks him if he knows the cat and where he might live but the guard doesn't. The guard says he'll check around and find Raban, who isn't hard to find in this area as he stands out. Raban carries the cat through the eastern district streets and shows him to various people. Its not until three hours later when Raban almost decides to give up and turn the cat over to a guard. As he walks to the south toward the Citadel he notices a man and girl around 10 seem frantic. They are moving down the street looking up and down. Raban smiles and approaches. When the girl notices the cat she runs toward it and claims it. The girl though, stops short when she sees the towering giant before her. She glances up a bit concerned but Raban smiles and hands the cat to her. The man and girl thank him for a full minute and the man bows and bows. Raban finds the attention a bit too much as he was only helping. Bards have been known to keep cats and dogs as pets. It adds to their appeal in some cases. Rumors also that the animals are used in the secret bardic network of contacts. One day Raban will have settle in and get into that network. Chion may be able to teleport a thousand miles to send messages back and forth. Messengers in quick ships or fast horses may be able to send fast messages. But the bardic network is one of the fastest way for those on the street to learn and pass information. In some places the network feeds things to town criers and the underworld. In other ways the network is used to pass warnings.] [During the time in the Elder's domain the party has watched Raban entertain. While he doesn't know the songs or stories he entertains through his instruments and body. He spends a couple days each with dance, drum, mandolin and his pan pipe playing for mostly the peasants. Most are quite pleased by his entertaining.] [The day before the meeting those who see Raban notice he is speaking now in Faerry Sidh with Fremea having learned the language by the necklace Z'leyra has. He doesn't seem to speak the Tongue of the Sidh openly.] Actions? Comments? Next Update...Friday. GM: Status - At this point I just have to finish Raban's character sheet updates. Then start and finish Arawn's IBT's actions. After that work on 2 new player characters (one is done just have to form up the data, the other waiting for process to start). After that I may need a couple days to write up details on the adventure out of the general outline. AFter that we can begin adventure #5! By next update Raban's sheet should be done. So will only leave Arawn to do. GM: Player Vote needed! It was put to my attention an old rule that recently resurfaced. This may have gone back to the old version and I either forgot it or didn't use it. Here is the rule: Lesser ELs Magic-Users may cast a spell at any EL equal to or less than the HIGHEST EL they know. Regardless of the EL cast the EL modifier is that normal for the Highest EL the Caster can cast. All effects are as for the EL cast. EXAMPLE - A Sidh Magician is capable of EL6 Elf-Shot. He casts it at EL2. The Roll Modifier is 12 (normal for EL6). The affect of success is as normal for EL2. (If the spell is an Abysmal Failure, the Highest EL applies as the modifier). Damage Effect On Spell Casting I have simply always used the EL cast as for modifier. Pros: Higher chance of success per spell. Cons: More bookkeeping - I would not only need the EL cast but would have to check on the EL Max level for the modifier. Also the Battletech Effect. :) In old games of Battletech most players would pick heavy mechs (100, 200 toners with massive armor and weapons). Usually just 1 or 2. Well we had one expert player who would often win by playing 10 or 20 Ten ton mechs. Light armor and light weapons. What this mean is easy to kill them but sheer numbers tended to overwhelm the other side. What this means for pnp is that for Balance the bad guys would have this same rule in effect. This means why send one mega wizard against you when I could simply send apprentices usually with EL4/5s, cast low and overwhelm you? This isn't to deter your vote but this is how Balance would work. A mega wizard wouldn't be needed since the lower minions would have higher chance of success now. If you understand. This may be one of the big reasons I haven't used the rule above in terms of highest EL for modifier in past games. Vote: 1) For above rule or 2) Against use Cast EL as EL modifier (El2 for EL2) 3) No vote, can't decide 4) Abstain 5) Other We have 8 players (Caladan not voting since npc). So a majority of the current votes is FIVE. If I get 5 for or against I'll use the rule. Please vote. If you want it private or not displayed let me know. GM: IBT Actions - IBT events will be queued.
