GM: Ack. ----------------------------------------------------------------- [New Stuff] [Apris 15th, 1634TH] [Time: 12:01pm - Before party departs after meeting...] In the forest just before the party enters into the cliffside port, Zhou comments about his learned lesson. Kiet speaks up in reply. "Master Zhao, I suspect my skills will not serve me well in attacking the Vong, but may be just what is needed to protect you. I do not know if Unali will want this, as she will be leading, but I certainly offer to make sure to keep you whole. While my magic may not be able to keep the Vong at bay, or harm them extensively, I certainly can use it to make an escape, should one be necessary." Zhou becomes pale, "wait..you mean I was going to fight the Vong too?" He places hand over heart. "I wasn't thinking of that... I might be better suited as a ...support person..maybe guarding he ship and horses or something like that. Planning our own escape." Color returns to his face. "Yes. That might do. After all would not be good to have the horses hurt." Farseeker shakes his head and grins. ------------------------- [Apris 16th, 1634TH] [Location: Dark Lands, Forest, Heading North East] Farseeker offers Kiet to teach him the use of a heavy sword. Kiet says, "Thank you Farseeker, but I think I am going to need the safety of a shield...and while I am capable of wielding such a sword, I believe my interest is in something smaller...like a 'sword' or scimitar... or better yet, a Tulwar!" Farseeker nods, "Trembyl liked Tulwars. Kasha also liked the shield and was probably the best of us with his magical mace." He then goes on to describe the men and their fighting skills to the acrobat since he doesn't know them. ------------------------- [Apris 17th, 1634TH] [Location: Novasa's Shadow Domain Dark Lands, Forest, Heading NE] [Time: 12:10pm - Coastline Port] Captain Lesai finishes up the rules of the ship. When he talks about the horses being forfeit it is clear Ben'dar doesn't like the idea of losing Tef'wo. But with Chion on board there is always hope. A rumble and growl is heard from him but some look to the cliffside to see if its a rock slide. Kell stands nearby Ben'dar and stares at the grumbling barbarian curious why he would be so mad at losing a simple horse? Captain Lesai announces his rates for sailing the high seas. The rate of 2 copper coins per 20 miles is pretty standard. Most sea guilds keep it fair for all. Course in some areas like Clima it might be 4 CC for the same rate due to protection from pirates. Here in this region pirates are less present. So the standard is the same and the captain must share his own guild reputation. "In advance my friends." Captain Lesai adds with a smile. "You are lucky I don't charge for more possible destruction of my ship from spells. But I expect we'll all behave." Quick calculations are made after a few minutes. The trip is standard, hugging the coastline of Choshai and Katai. It should be no more than 2,640 miles give or take 100 miles. But the Captain only gives the 2,640 figure as a round number. That means 264 CC per person just for a sleeping area. Zhou and Shu pays the captain right away with small bags of gold and silver coins. Caladan and Farseeker also pay their own fares in coins. Z'leyra steps up and pays her 264 copper in various coins. Then she turns to the party and knows some can't afford it. especially those who just joined the group in the last month. Many also took their money back to Marentia via the Chion Express. She offers to pay for the rest of the party, all ten who have not paid at this point. Not waiting to argue and haggle over who can pay and not pay she turns and hands a stack of coins over to the Captain. Then counts out the rest and hands them over. Her load a bit less heavy of coins. Kell attempts to haggle for the price but it is explained about the guilds and Kell knows how unions and guilds can be. Hard to negotiate with. The Captain picks through the coins at a glance. For a party to pay up front he trusts the coins are valid. If they can afford to do it that quickly he knows he would not be ripped off. But he looks at the stack of 25 Marentian coins and picks one up. "Looks like Marentian....yes?" Z'leyra nods. "Never been there. Fine ships from what I've heard. Recent designs from the looks. I've seen them before in Lemasa but never this far north. Indeed this group is far from home." He then plops the coin down and shuts the bag. Smiling he hands it to his first mate. "Thank you. Most passengers argue and simply debate for hours on this. Cho did mention this is a unique group." Some in the party calculate how much the First mate holds. Almost 40 gold from the party. With a crew of 12 that means at least 3 gold per person and likely the two men here taking a bulk of that share. Even then still a good profit for the crew for the time. When most sailors might only make 3 silver per month and it would be almost 3 months of travel. Some realize of course that will buy loyalty as well. Captain Lesai lowers his smile. "Then there the matter of ship's meals. Normally most men would need 3 copper for a normal meal. With a trip of this length and limited space with the horses in the hold we can't furnish full meals. We simply don't have the space for meats and all that. There will be time for fishing and plenty of fish for protein. But Choshai has a few villages we can get some fresh meat and other foods. Cho said the High Elder sent a wagon full of food here and it has been loaded on ship by now. Sad to say it is mostly rations. Think of a steak as a slab of fresh meat it could feed a person a full day. We figured we'd need around 1,400 steaks to last the trip. Rations on the other hand last longer and weigh less. We've loaded up four crates of 200 pounds total of rations. This will last one third of the trip. We'll repeat this when we can at a city along the way. There are only a few select towns that can furnish that amount. But we should make it. Cho has already paid for the food." "Of course ale and beer you can buy inside. Just about all places we'll stop will have plenty to resupply us. Even the small sleepy fishing villages. Let's board!" As the two officers head toward the ship, Ben'dar grunts. Ben'Dar shrugs at Z'leyra's offer to pay for the trip. "Let the old wizard pay for it. We're on his errand." Farseeker taps Ben'dar on the shoulder, "he could have paid. But you don't understand how these things work. If he paid then we could be in his debt for awhile longer. I know how people like him work Plus he could've kept all your treasure from that place in the sky. I wasn't there but from what I hear it was quite profitable. That alone made some rich here. As to his errand I think it is all of ours. If we fail your ranch will only become a Vong breeding farm for vile creatures that use horses in some vile way." ------------------------- [Apris 18th, 1634TH] [Location: Eastern Ocean, East of Dark Lands] After the ship passes the Chaos Domain patrol ship the tension ebbs on the ship. There might have been magic used to attack the ship if the Chaos Master wanted them, especially if it was Itom. But not knowing who it was or their intent the party may never know. Kiet sees the ship too and frowns. To whoever happens to be around, Kiet muses, "Well, the Chaos realms now know what direction we are going, and that we are travelling with magically aided speed. What one of them knows, soon all will likely know... including her. I think I like not that they know even that much." "True." Caladan nods, "but I suspect they knew before we left. From the look of the map the north only goes to the cold realms. So it has to be south or out to sea and then south. But I suspect they didn't have enough ships to set up any kind of ambush for us. Likely they were just checking us out. I hope." Actions? Comments? Next Update...Monday... GM: Version 2 changed ship rates. Now per 20 its 2 CC per mile rather than 10 miles. So it is 264 CC per person (twice as cheap). For the ten not mentioned above who Z'leyra paid for you if you want to pay her now let me know. I will remove the funds. At least three of the 10 can afford it right now to pay their share. Others might have a small problem. It is minor for now but just a detail as a loan. Meals will be paid for. But if you want to pay Z'leyra back let me know for the 264 CC out of her own cash. GM: Finished kiet's IBT. This weekend will work on Kell's and Fremea's. Then tackle some long avoided emails. GM: Short update for now. I could do more for the next hour. But might as well end it here. Need to review some naval rules and figure out when the first encounter is. I have that all generated just have to work on the details. So stay tuned more next week! GM: Magic/Normal Items to leave info If not supplied will assume all items are taken. Ben'dar - Done.
