Yet," placing strong emphasis... GM: Ack. From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions] While waiting to be led via secret ways out of the city Z'leyra will find a good piece of hardwood and start carving/whittling a fighting dagger. GM: Ack. It will likely be 11pm by time finished with wagon. So if you start work on the wood then you'd not sleep at all and have to leave around 4am. So means lack of sleep and less alert for future actions the next day. :) So noted. ----------------------------------------------------------------- [New Stuff] [Augado 5th, 1634TH] [Location: Middle Katai Plains] [ Pamau Province, Pamau City] [Time: 10:33pm] Kell stands staring into the darkness at the two men and poor Zep. The men watch the newcomer with wary eyes and do not know how to treat the stranger. "You haven't heard of me yet. Yet," placing strong emphasis on that last word. Shaking his head and giving Zep another half- hearted kick, just to jostle the poor man about. And judge the reactions of the two thugs, size them up. Also to enforce his mean, bully persona, shaping it to be above these two, a specialist of some kind looking for work. Shady work. "I'm new in town, remember?" Growls Bal Tug, shaking his head at the stupid man and stabbing a pointing finger at him, as if to say I just told you. "Just getting started in this ripe orchard, there are some easy pickings here. What can I offer? Tonight money for drink and gambling, but in the next weeks I can offer a whole lot more. I don't come cheap though, never cheap. I'm the best at what I do." Standing straight and tall, looking down at these street-thugs like the lowlife they are, several steps below himself. "Either you can invite me in for some gambling and drinks, maybe get to meet your boss and tell him more, or I'll be on my way. Your choice." Growling again and adding that boss- like bulliness most higher thugs have he finishes, "Make the right one." and Kell taps his purse again. "Either way this pile of dung owes me money too, and I'm not letting him off." Across the street Will and Kiet try to listen. The wind is light but occasionally they can pick up a word or two from this distance. Both are not sure of what Kell is planning to do. Both know if the half-elf is attacked they'll not reach him to save his life in the first 3 or so seconds. Dagger-man moves closer to Kell, "we normally don't just let anyone inside our club. We need references and to know the person a bit before we do. Gambling is easy to find. But we specialize in a bit more entertainment value." Upstairs on the third floor Unali stands in the hallway trying to get a glance down the hall to the east. About 80 feet away is the guard at some door. He is wearing heavy clothing and likely leather armor of some kind. He looks to be almost 5 foot and has a dagger on his belt. In his right hand he holds a polestaff with a thin blade for slicing and stabbing and a axe part for intense chopping. The polearm stands almost as tall as the man does. He clearly looks bored but simply stares across the hall to the opposite wall. The hallway is 10 feet wide in some places. It seems when the place was cleared and built around the people must've first used it as a warehouse. Then rooms were slowly built around the various areas. So the hallway is wider than one would expect. But it is so wide that crossing it fast in more than 2 seconds could risk being seen. Then there is the issue of going down the hallway without being seen as well. The lighting up here on the third floor is dim. The store room was dark. The nearest light is a small wall lamp the size of a quarter lantern about 5 feet away. It shows enough light about 4 feet around it. These small wall oil lamps dot the wall about every so often with about 6-8 feet between them. But it makes the hallway have a dead zone of darkness in the direct center. Unali tries to listen to the room across from her which has to be the roof hatch. Likely there must be stairs there as well. She tries to hear of noise below but it is very muffled through the wooden door. Back in the alley the man continues to speak to Kell. "I doubt the Boss has time for you. At least until we can get some references. He is a busy man afterall. But if you want inside then this way." He waves a hand toward the building. Kell turns knowing it is a dangerous move to turn one's back on thugs. But is a sign of trust. It works as Kell moves around the corner and toward the door. The two thugs leave Zep behind and follow the trader toward the door. Club man steps ahead of Kell and knocks on the door. A small window slit the size of a person's eyes and as wide as a person's head slides open. A mean peers outside with green eyes. The Club man looks inside and then backs up a foot so the other can see his face. The slit closes again and the door is unlocked. Club man steps inside after opening the door and Kell walks in as if he owns the place. Kell sees a large open area immediately. It is about 130 feet wide and 100 feet deep or so. It must have 30 or 35 tables that can sit as many as six around them. To the far right a small stage is along the east wall about 20 by 20 feet that might be used for entertainers. But tonight it is empty and dark. Candle chandeliers hang over the tavern area lighting up the place very nicely. Directly across the room is the back door to the place about 100 feet on the north wall. To the left is a large bar area. The wooden bar area is in two sections. The north and south section are identical but are about 40 feet long and about 10 feet wide. There is a open area between these two bar sections about 20 feet wide. This area leads to a area to the west. But from this angle not much detail beyond that is noticed. The south bar section has a door to the rear of it. It must lead to the kitchen area. The tables are about one third to capacity. Kell can see games of chance and fate. There are simple dice games. Card games of various difficulty from poker style games to the more complex Katai Ki-Ja card game Kell has heard about but never played. There are roulette style tables as well as some games not seen by Kell before. There must be about 45 or so people at the various tables. The noise is low key but loud enough Kell can't make out the conversations at this range. At the two bar sections a barkeep stands making drinks in both sections. The sections have about 10 stools on each with 3-4 people in each bar section. Kell can see tables stacked with poker colored chips and gems or coins in piles. Some tables have scrolls in the center as if the poor gambler is giving deeds or some other collateral out to be sold or traded. Most of the people at the tables are clearly non-brigader. They seem to be middle class mostly with well dressed folks. In fact no peasants seem to be here or can afford this place. There is at least one guy with gold chain and a nice ruby ring sitting at one card table with two others with serious faces. He could likely be a low noble or rich merchant? Kell doesn't see the stairs but figure they must be to the west behind the bar area. While all of the patrons are male there are about half a dozen bar waitresses who look young and clad in tight pants and tunics. Aside from the barkeepers, the one obvious brigader at the back of the bar guarding the rear hallway, a couple of obvious looking henchmen in the crowd of tables and the bouncer near the door the place is devoid of many Brigaders. For a place to be a base Kell would have expected the place to be full of the gang. Maybe this is just a front base? Maybe they are elsewhere in this place. The normal citizens and the brigaders are easy to pick out. The Brigaders have those arm muscles and black tunics. They all have that thin ugly mustache and look simply mean. Outside on the ledge Fremea is amazed that Kell wasn't killed out right but taken inside. She is unsure if this was the plan. It has gone from a simple recon mission to a infiltration mission thinks to the trader. She can't believe he would go inside and risk being captured. She is unsure how to act at this point. From across the street Kiet and Will watch as Kell is escorted inside. But the half-elf seems to have walked in with no threat to his back and seems to have been invited in? "Whoa big guy!" The large man standing to the right of Kell places a hand to his chest. Kell turns to see the bald man who must be 250 pounds. He stands at 6 foot and is taller than most Katai. On his hip are two large daggers as well as a small hip sword in a sheath. On his forearms are two black leather gauntlets that almost go to his elbow. His sleeves are torn off and his tat on his upper arm reveals him as clearly a Brigader. "Who are you?" Dagger-man speaks up, "A guy we found in the alley. Claims to be after Zep." Kell glances back and gets a good view of Dagger-man. He isn't as bulky as the bouncer but has a face full of scars. He must be the hired muscle and not front line customer service. The man smiles at Kell and shows broken staggered teeth. "Problem is he claims to be an enforcer. But I've never seen an enforcer to just take out their target without taking something from them. he beat Zep but didn't even try to search him or take a finger like a good enforcer." With that suddenly Club man and Dagger man each grab one of Kell's arms. The bouncer draws one of his shiny long blades and draws it to Kell's chin. Dagger man leans forward to show his ugly teeth and bad breath to Kell. "Zep is worthless. You go after him? You must be new to this game then. Now tell us who you really are and what you are here for?" The tables show some glances at this new situation but the people soon look away as if they've seen this thing happen before and find it unexciting. From outside Kiet and Will can't see inside the dark Tavern to see what is going on. Kiet wonders if he can get a better angle to see through the tiny cracks in the windows from across the street. As he takes in the scene of the street a noise is heard from the west. It quickly builds and soon a horse running at full speed is heard. A rider rides fast past Kiet and Kell. Fremea watches the man ride past from her vantage point as well. The man gets to the door of the tavern. Both men in the south alley watch as he dismounts and doesn't even tie up the horse. The man bangs on the door and a second later the slit reopens. The man is quickly let inside leaving the horse outside untied and panting to catch his breath. The man moves past Kell and now his two captors. His breathing is also a bit rapid. "I need to see the boss. Some new news. A village was attacked east of here." The man clearly a young member of the Brigade group moves toward the bar area. He mentally considers gulping down a beer but knows he should deliver his news. The man darts to the back hallway and out of sight. "Now where were we?" Club man squeezes Kell's left arms to remind him of his questions. From the third floor, Unali considers her options. But suddenly she hears movement from the room across her. She slinks back down the way she came back into the darkness of the storage room. Cracking the door open she hears a door open and someone moving into the floor area. When Unali realizes the person doesn't come this way she exits the storage room and peers around the room. Unali sees a young man in what seems to be the normal black, brown and gray leathers the Brigaders seem to have. The man moves quickly down the hall. He passes the room guard and isn't stopped. The man moves further east and rounds the corner. Unali finds that interesting. So the guard isn't guarding the boss's room? What is in that room? From outside on the ledge, Fremea continues to hear muffled voices from inside the office. The window and curtains seem to block the full voices. But now she realizes a new voice has entered the conversation. She tries to listen and finds it easier now that Kell and his new friends have moved on. "...Just learned that a village east of here has been sacked and completely destroyed by fire. Some claim the fire came from flying things." New voice says. The second voice which Fremea considers to be the Boss's Aid speaks. "The Vong? Why would they do that?" boss man now speaks up. "Nom did mention they would show their power to the Empire once they were ready. They may be moving ahead of the agenda. This is not good. First Nom goes missing and doesn't return here to meet with us. Now news of this village after the day's events at the various areas around town." The aid adds, "could it be wizards?" "No. Likely the Vong. Nom mentioned that they could do this with ease. But it is sooner than I expected." Boss man trails off as he considers his thoughts. Aid man replies, "We could be in danger. Maybe the Vong are moving forward with their plans and have taken us out of the loop? Should we leave here?" [Time: 10:36pm] Actions? Comments? Next Update...Friday... GM: Short update. But its enough for what actions I have. Just a word of advice. When I have no posts to work on I CAN do updates. But its not to the party's advantage. When I'm idle to consider stuff to do I tend to fall back to my evil GM thoughts. This isn't quite what one may want. Posted actions tend to be enough to work with so those evil things aren't do. So I CAN work on updates without posted stuff but it might not be good for the party as a whole. :) I did the above to add some spice and urgency as an example of just a minor evil thought. Lucky for you had to get up early this morning for a funeral and brain is dead from lack of sleep. So my evil thoughts were less. For now. But its enough of a update to wait for more actions. GM: Keep in mind compartamental scenes. Fremea only heard the conversation. Will/Kiet has no cue what is going on inside. Unali has no clue Kell is inside. I do it all lumped up for ease. GM: I do work Thursday (why give up a good holiday bonus which is a week's pay not working on a normal day to me). So will get home that night. Likely have no TV to watch due to holiday. Likely after the normal big meal can work on update a couple hours. So I am UP to a Friday update if posts come in. But I realize it is a holiday for some and so if no posts come in I'll not do an update. So it is up to the four at the tavern to decide if I do a update or not. But its not required. Else will do one for Monday regardless of posts or not. So depends on posts, time and such if post Friday or Monday. New map is below. GM: Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it. Don't overeat.
