As usual she will first cast a Purification EL0 and use a Divination EL0 to make sure the Purification worked, then she will cast the Knowledge spell on herself at Max EL. She casts the Purification and Divination spells thru her staff. GM: Ack. Remember we've covered the whole div cheat kind of thing. Div is great for testing spells but for a spell you can't really "see" the effect its hard to tell if it worked or nlt :) But a clever cheat for sure. Too bad its not fool proof. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] Gems: Since we're going with choices made by players, Arawn's first choice for gem is the Tourmaline (not the Turquoise as currently listed). His second choice, pending a response to a PM, is the Ruby. As this will place Arawn in contention with Kiet for the Tourmaline, Kiet how do you want to handle this? Is the Tourmaline a first choice for you (over the meteorite and sapphire)? Gems to Jewelry: If the party ends up choosing to hold on to the gems for now so they can be improved through cutting Arawn is willing to work with Z'leyra on crafting them to help speed things up. However I imagine the largest profit would be gained by taking time selling them, probably during downtime with Kell serving as the seller. As such there would be little need to rush through crafting the better stones, at least while questing. Any thoughts on this? Otherwise, if we end up selling them in bulk as originally planned Arawn would like a portion of his share in good quality tourmaline for future magical crafting purposes. Probably about 20% or so. (Just trying to help the group out if we hold on the gems for crafting - Arawn is more interested in practicing his Jeweler skill than the profit) GM: Ack. Choice 1-2 are fine but it does add more if-thens that will take weeks to resolve. Will note below. I can't decide who gets what. You guys have to finalize it and let me know. You can argue, shout, duel, trade, gamble, bribe, etc in email, here or whatever. Just let me know the results. As to gems keep in mind cutting will take time and materials. If the party is going to leave for Donara city you'll be on the road not a shop/city. Plus gems do sell better as themselves. Doing them as jewelry is great and gets more profit BUT that takes longer. A dealer will simply be more subjective 10 here 12 there 15 for that one. But a simple gem is pretty much set in the modern economy so not much deviation. Just let me know what you guys decide. I'm game for either way. As to those 20% tourmaline thing the gems listed that are not selected (the bottom list) are NOT able to be magically done. They are all small, flawless, etc. The only ones I have with names on it at the top like the meteorite are able to be enhanced and done. So 20% of the chips would be good for jewelry but not for magical use. As to the 20% if that is the case remind me I can only make so many notes and recall it later :) It may be weeks before you guys finally decide what to do so may forget. From Kiet: [Re: Actions[ Kiet looks over to Arawn and says 'I don't care who uses.... Kiet hears about the 'house' that Bogan built...or at ... "Sometimes, too, people keep their most prized possessions... GM: Ack. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] Scott, as you mentioned adding the stones to character sheets are you treating the placement as permanent or temporary? GM: Ack. Once final decisions are made. Yes. But it has to be determined and results given to me. Its already been what 2 months? I am only a simple book keeper here I can't decide who gets what. I can't resolve If-thens and top 10 selections and arguments. I am only a book keeper. It is up to you guys to resolve it. From David: [Re: Actions] Don't ask him...ask your mates! Role play it. It's really up to us all anyway. GM: Ack. True dat! (Isn't that the hip young thing? :)) Or is that way outdated these days? From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions] Since Z'leyra can't read Donaran and is a skilled herbalist she takes Arawn's suggestion and checks for herbs while he reads scrolls. GM: Ack. Too late. Obviously the last update had Arawn going to the library. It would be a great change to do that. So you'll have to stay with the scrolls. This is why I waited a extra week for tasks to be finalized. :< As to reading I mentioned in the last update you can read them. Initially I advised could not. But then you mentioned the salaqi in the recap Is believe and mentioned that indeed is a dialect. Not sure how to compare it but maybe old english (shakespeare) to more modern version. So can figure enough based on the other version If that makes sense. So in the update I later said you could read it and fake reading them to oversee Etain's progress as Kiet suggested. From Arawn: [Re; actions] I'd love to switch but as Scott has moved things forward in the previous post I don't think we can backtrack. However, if I can find a legitimate reason for Arawn to swing back by the inn I'll write it in and we can go from there. And if Z'leyra has a way of sending a message to him that would be a reasonable reason for him to return and switch roles. If nothing else, once the everyone has regrouped we can switch things up then. GM: Ack. Well this is why I gave an extra week for folks to decide. I even delayed that update to wait. But yeah too late would be ok for some things but we've moved on. Guess it helps to post things right away if possible. :< Sorry. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] As there's some discrepancy with the list, the question was posed to Scott so we, as a group, can determine if we're all on the same page. But you're right about the group making a decision... so group, as Scott is prepared to add the gems to people's character sheets, are we looking at this as a permanent assignment or temporary? I'm voting for temporary at the moment but I'm flexible. GM: Ack. Well I'll delay it. But let's try first of August? That's at least two weeks. Sometimes a deadline pushes folks more to do things than sitting around doing If-Thens and such. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] Donations for the Girls heading to the Farm: Deciding that discretion and reliability on the part of the courier was of paramount importance Arawn made the decision to take the responsibility on himself. Once the party had reconvened he would propose the idea, ready to translocate to the farm with the gathered coin. Freen Lotus Shop [Time: 8:05:03 am - Samma city, Donara]: Avalos Triendar's business intrigued the ever inquisitive alfar. "It never occurred to me that I'd run into a business ... Library [Time: 8:29:16am - Samma city, Donara]: As he perused the venerable work Arawn couldn't help... "Can you make a detailed copy of the illustration?," he... GM: Ack. Don't trust a messenger? Who do those things daily. If no trust then the messengers would be out of business. If at least could simply leave whatever is with a money lender and send the details to the farm via messenger. Nothing loss. Sometimes things tend to get a bit overcomplicated here. :) But if you still want to translocate that is probably a month from now since things are moving slow so remind me then. From Kiet: [Re: Actions] "Well, truthfully, I am concerned about who we would... GM: Ack. From Fremea: [Re: Actions] Fremea feels the familiar tingle of horror and excitement ... "Lets not break the door down just yet, I will check on ... Once inside, she will take a few moments to look around. Using her skills she will make sure that there are no hidden traps. She will also sense for any magical energies. GM: Ack. From Fremea: [Re: Actions] Fremea had already stated that it was temporary placement. Only until this whole mess was sorted out and then we would split the treasure properly. As for all the extra gems, she would have trusted Z to make sure they are safe. GM: Ack. All this hassle on simple loot I hate to see if I give you guys more gems or special stuff. Geesh. :) From Kiet: [Re: Actions] Kiet looks over to Arawn and says 'I don't care who uses t.... GM: Ack. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] Selling the Gems: I agree with Kiet's and think we should wait until after we've left this city before selling them. Ideally I'd say hold on to them and then we can improve them during IBT and pass them on to Kell or another merchant to sell during IBT. Does anyone have any problems or thoughts on both of the suggestions? If not, I'm guessing both should be a go. Temporary Distribution: Cool but we might want to look at the list. This is as Scott has it currently listed although I've corrected Arawn's choice, moving it from Turquoise to Tourmaline. This leaves the Meteorite and the Tourmaline in contention. How do we want to negotiate this? (If Kiet's first choice is the Tourmaline Arawn can go with the Ruby assuming it works as written against poison (MDV + 10)) And it leaves out Raban, Kell and Will. Will, do you have any interest in carrying a stone? GM: Ack. So I'll have to save the loot info for months from now to deal with. Ok. Will do. More book keeping I need one of those book keeping forehead shields. Raban has no loot interest. If he did he'd do something like a Ruby or Diamond not for magic but for a pretty gal. :) From Kiet: [Re: actions] Kiet smiles and says "I have no objection to the ... GM: Ack. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] Arawn gave a nod, hoping that everyone was now on the same page. OOC: If we go with Fremea's plan for distribution the adjustments will be - Raban: Turquoise Kell: Emerald Arawn: Ruby Kiet: Sapphire "A human": Tourmaline (... so Will, as he hasn't made a c hoice, or Kiet) ???: Turquoise (extra for anyone who's likely to climb/fly) Everything else should remain the same. Is everyone good with this? GM: Ack. Kiet would select if he wanted but he is all about the Maros's (since no benjamins). So folks will have to post their selections themsevles to be noted. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] True. I guess we can wait to see if anything goes awry with Z'leyra's enchancement process:) GM: Ack. -------------------------------------------------------------- [New Stuff] [Sepes 29th, 1634TH] [Location: City of Samma, Donara] [Time: 6:43:19 am - Samma city, Donara] The conversation goes again back to the loot found. By now the tavern is somewhat packed so it a quiet but heated discussion. Kiet looks over to Arawn and says, 'I don't care who uses the gems that are enhanced right now. I care about who gets them when we divide shares permanently. Some of these jewels can be worth fortunes by themselves, and multiple fortunes if enhanced. I am just asking for a bit of balance in the total share values. It might even be that the value of some of the enhancible gems exceeds what a share might be...and maybe whoever wants to claim it should compensate the group for it. And for our little group to not be hasty." "By Girra's burning balls!...those haven't even been enhanced yet!" Kell shrugs, "except for the special ones that can be magically used the vast majority are not worthy for magic. Thus as simple currency. Most seem to have flaws and clarity issues. So their values all together would not likely go up against the magical enhanced ones. Fortune? Depends on what you consider a fortune. I've sold more stuff in Ba'ru a week's time worth all this on the table." Kiet adds, "Well, truthfully, I am concerned about who we would trust with this fortune if we all go off on separate little missions. These stones, enhancible or not, are many of them unique and can be traced back to where we got them." Raban shrugs, "I trust you and I'm sure the others do as well. Z'leyra is capable enough to handle herself under such situations of being interrogated or such by the locals so I suspect they are in safe hands." Kiet smiles and says "I have no objection to the distribution given previously by Fremea. As long as it's not yet permanent Which I believe is the case." ----------- [Fremea/Raban group] [Time: 8:12:38 am - Samma city, Donara] Behind the Grosis office the pair watch the smoke soon leave. Pretending to have a deep conversation the small and large one quietly talk among themselves. Fremea feels the familiar tingle of horror and excitement when she used to have to break in places to steal. Only this time it will be for a better reason than to line someone else's pockets and destroy others lives that did no harm. "Lets not break the door down just yet, I will check on it and pick it up first. Though, since you are better at seeing traps, maybe you look for those first? Then make sure no one sees me getting inside. Once I am in, just wait for me for a couple of minutes." Raban nods and both wait. Soon the wagon delivery is done and the alley is empty except the two. They move to the back door of the office. Grosis was no real trader like Kell but he did have a legitimate business while she was a slave. A way to help overhead. At first he dealt in furniture but then decided to go with commodities like fruits or oil from distant lands. He was never a huge success but enough to let him live in moderate conditions. Raban first checks the door but finds nothing obvious. He knows Fremea is being careful but a slaver would not be clever enough to do a trap here. Unless he was super paranoid. He nods to Fremea and blocks the view from one side of the door. Fremea goes to work pulling out a simple hair pin. She makes a mental note that she has to get some better tools for this sort of thing. Within seconds a click is heard and she opens the door with a smile. Raban looks inside briefly to find a dark place. He looks at Fremea but she nods and did ask for him to wait. Clearly he is not happy at this but moves to the wooden fence about 20 feet away and stares at the building. Once inside she lets her eyes adjust to the light and draws on her other senses. But there is nothing magical in this place. Just the normal faint aura that Arawn taught her to see that she used to ignore. Drawing her dagger she moves through what seems to be a storage area. It is full of shelves, crates, boxes, barrels and a small table littered with tools of some kind. Based on the doors they look like finishing touches to upholstery or such work. Some light picks and other devices she isn't sure but could be for a normal business like this. There doesn't seem to be anything here so Fremea moves to the door to this room. She listens and then opens it. The other rooms seem dark. Guess Grosis is on a day off or the business is closed down. That or they may come at any time. Realizing this she moves quickly. In the main room there are four desks, three large tables. There are bits of fruit on one table. So they must be a display table or work table. The desks are bare and likely just a front for the business. To the right though is a small office. Entering she finds a carpeted room with bright green paint. It is dark but the light form the front windows shines a bit into this room. She finds a drink cabinet, three chairs, desk and some file cabinets. She looks through the papers on the table in the dim light and decides to light a candle. In the daylight the candle will not be seen form outside the windows. There are many business related papers. Shipments, invoices, bills, etc. So it seems he is still in business. She moves to the file cabinet. Opening it she finds papers on employees. Records. Sales. Home and family information. Must be 8-10 employees. She is not sure if they are all loyal bodyguards or employees of this fake business. Then she smiles as one record shows Grossis information. Tax records, sales, profit margins and the jackpot a current home address. The fool would leave such records just lying around. She closes the cabinet and blows out the candle. A noise startles her. From the outer room. She creees up to the door and hears movement. A single figure. The figure moves to the back and gets a box of what look to be candles and begins to light two on a back desk. The figure is oblivious. But Fremea can see him. His name was Matik she believes. The third man in charge in the group. He looks so much older now with wrinkles and bruises on his arms for a man in his early 30s. If anyone knows where Grosis is this man surely knows. But does she wait or just leave to find his home? From out back Raban would not know the front was breached. But he will soon come in to check on her. The back door is still open. If the man find it he might be alerted. She checks the man out and sees he is wearing a simple half dagger on a belt. At times his back is to her and only about 10-15 feet away. The man continues to light candles on other desks. [Time: 8:26:41 am - Samma city, Donara] --------------- [Kell/Unali's group] [Time: 8:02:21 am - Samma city, Donara] Unali does not respond so Kell begins to pace back and and forth. Even if there were 6 guards they could likely handle them all. But it would be covert and dangerous. if caught they would be known. Kell glances at the guard house and doesn't even know of the scum is inside. Then he sees a kid pass by humming some song. "Hey kid." Kell waves a hand. Kell is not fluent in the language but knows a few words. But words mean nothing against hard currency. "What mister?" The kid around 13-14 stops and looks back. "Want to hear a copper?" The boy giggles did he just say hear a copper. But the man is holding up a copper coin. The guy must've meant earn a copper. Kell points to the guard house. "Go. Ask for Mavac. Say a friend needs him at..." Kell does some thinking. They passed a two story dancing hall that served as tavern. What was the name. The Yellow Swan. No. The Tan Swan. "The Tan Swan. As soon as pissable." The boy giggles again and realizes the strange man means possible. The boy nods and Kell tosses him the coin. "When you leave show me how many guards are inside with your fingers." The boy shrugs and heads off. Two minutes later pass. Then two more. The two worry the kid may be interrogated and decide to slip into the shadows. Then the boy leaves with a grin. A grin that shows he wasn't likely questioned but how to spend the copper. The boy looks around and doesn't see Kell. But Kell leaves the shadow and then the boy flashes 4 fingers and turns and runs away. Just as Kell enters the shadow a man exits the house. This one tall about 6 foot 2. About 220 or 230 pounds. he is wearing a sword and dagger. He seems to be wearing ring mail. He looks around and then moves south to where this Swan place is. Kell whispers to Unali. "He is alone. Let's back track and use the side streets. Maybe we can grab him before he gets to the hall?" He leaves and hopes Unali catches up. Kell has no clue if they should just watch him or capture him. Kell looks over his shoulder. and hopes she hears. "What should we do with him?" [Time: 8:13:10 am - Samma city, Donara] ----------------- [Arawn/Will's group] [Time: 8:05:03 am - Samma city, Donara] Arawn scans the Green Lotus shop and is intrigued. Avalos Triendar's business intrigued the ever inquisitive Alfar. "It never occurred to me that I'd run into a business such as this," Arawn said, his eyes twinkling with the possibilities. "I'd be very interested in procuring your services in the future or sitting down to learn more from your husband of his adventures, once my expedition is over and I can find the time." He made a brief inquiry as to the best times to run into Avalos as well as how to properly contract their service before directing the conversation back to the topic of the Moon Gort. The woman shifts a bit back and forth, batting her eyes in that so human body language of a female not in so much power. But Arawn can sense she knows more and likely is the true brain behind this place. A place like this has the man doing the work and the woman doing most of the boring day to day stuff. But most humans females prefer to remain secretive to this thing to air a bit of dignity. "Well he may return in a week or two if he gets what he is looking for. As to services you would have to talk to him. It would depend on many factors. But the shop here is open five days a week. So you are welcome back any time." Arawn nods, "You mentioned that maybe a half dozen people in the city may have heard of the stone. Is there anyone you might suggest visiting that might hold more information than the library? And do you recall the general location where your husband discovered the plant?" The female looks puzzled. "Stone? I thought you were looking for a plant? If it was found I suspect word would be around the community..in our circle at least. But no. I do not know of anyone who knows more. It is a very rare thing. As to my husband I believe he said it was in the plains north of here. Maybe a hundred or couple hundred miles north of here? Something like that." [Time: 8:29:16 am - Samma city, Donara] Once at the library the two discuss the results of their findings. "Can you make a detailed copy of the illustration?," he asked Will, aware of the hunter's artistic talent. Will nods knowing at least now he can do something. Arawn just wished he was more active a talker. As he perused the venerable work Arawn couldn't help but be fascinated by the new and myriad species contained within that the druid had yet to discover. As much as he wished to sit down with the book for an extended study he realized it was an effort for another day, limiting himself instead to the few unusual entries surrounding the section on the Moon Gort, doing his best to note any application for the Moon Moss and Moon Spider. His quick read over he then turned his full attention to the object of their inquiry. On the brief overview of the Moon Spiders it seems they are dark black with gray shades. Thus the name one suspects. But the reader seems to indicate they are prone to be around during moon light time. They are not overaly vicious spiders, the author believes but they are quite known for their extra silky webs. Arawn sighs looking around the library. In his home he had a library in the court. But it was biased and one sided. Histories and stories. Nothing as varied and diverse at the humans do here. Maybe the gods could learn from how the humans store and document everything in their world from ballads to venerable poems. Arawn then committed himself to taking down notes, both mentally and in his journal, regarding the mysterious Moon Gort Whatever other uses such a plant might have it's benefit to Fremea would be great and realizing his own recollection of the obscuring ite was limited he felt it might prove wise to meet with Jordi the elf in hopes of plumbing the elf's memory. Of course he'd need to locate the elf and he wasn't exactly sure where he was. But perhaps those who encountered him last night might have the answer. Of course the group was now split, the only solid contact being Z'leyra and Kiet, possibly warranting a return to the inn before the day had drawn too long. Arawn looks up from his journal of notes and considers this small library is very small. He heard Z'leyra mention somewhere along their travel about a place called Ticasi. Some great center of learning. Image the library stores there. "Is the name of the barbarian tribe or their descendants known?," Arawn asked the librarian, hoping that such a group might still hold on to the knowledge of the plant and how best to handle and use it. "And would you know the availability or the name of the Ticasi text where this information was originally discovered?" The librarian stops with a stack of books in her hand. She looks down at Arawn. "I am sure I do not know what you speak of? I have not read that book. I am sorry. I would need more information on what you speak of. As to Ticasi well I suspect the location is Ticasi city?" She then moves on toward a collection of shelves. Arawn tries to catch her as she steps away. Arawn is surprised how rude this woman is but she may just be too busy and ignorant of this subject to know. "By any chance is this book available for purchase or could an order be placed to have it copied in detail?," he then added. The woman stops in mid stride. "Not purchased. The chief librarian would have my head. If it was a common book maybe. A scribe could be hired to copy it but it would take time." Arawn and Will leave the library and the day is still young. The tavern with Z'leyra is about 15 minutes by walking to the west. But Will looks at Arawn as if wondering the next step. They could go to more shops and look around. Then Arawn sees a messenger run down the street with a money pouch on some delivery run and recalls the loot again. [Time: 8:39:19 am - Samma city, Donara] --------------- [Kiet/Z'leyra/Etain's group] [Time: 7:58:33 am - Samma city, Donara] Etain hands the scroll of information to Z'leyra on what is likely to be Bogan's personal home. Kiet hears about the 'house' that Bogan built...or at least sent things to...and it does interest him. He's just not sure he's up to it, as he his feeling somewhat drained (magically, anyway). It's likely to be well guarded. Still, one must crack a few eggs to make egg rolls. He looks over to Z'leyra and says "So, what do you think of that house...Bogans? Is it worth exploring? We might find more 'trail' than we have thus far," "Sometimes, too, people keep their most prized possessions close to home..." Kiet's face lights up in a mischievous smile... Etain continues to wade through the scrolls. He listens to the others discuss their plans. He speaks a bit absently as he reads, "if the authorities find his house it may be full of guards from the city. If they haven't found it then you may have limited...time. Hmmm..." He shuffles a few papers and then looks back to another stack. He scans one small slip of parchment. Z'leyra can see a eyebrow perk up and a small smile form. "This may be more interesting. It seems just a three days ago Bogan hired some guy to follow Ozon.." He looks up. "That the thief guy right?" Z'leyra nods and glances at Kiet briefly. Etain looks back down and continues, "well Bogan was his fence but it..maybe they had some more trying times. Maybe a partial falling out? It seems the guy was due today to report his findings. If this guy found the Thief's home?" He looks and gives a faint smile. "Then Bogan's place might be a shack compared to the thief's place. If you can track this guy down...get where Ozon lived." He glances down again and scans the parchment. "The invoice or slip of note seems to say the guy usually is found at a certain tavern in the north of town." Kiet glances to Z'leyra and dreams. If Ozon has his place full of stolen stuff this loot on the table would be a beggar's bag of brass bits compared to it. There may be risk for Bogan's place but the thief may not have been located by the city. Unless they knew of him/? Even so if the warehouse was tracked down it might be days for them to find his place. Who in their right man as a thief would own a warehouse under his own name? Etain makes a few notes on a scrap of blank parchment and shoves it toward Kiet. "So what do you two say? Bogan. Ozon or stay here with me?" [Time: 8:04:12 am - Samma city, Donara] ---Ending Time--- [Current time for each group] [Time: 8:26:41 am - Samma city, Donara] - Fremea/Raban [Time: 8:13:10 am - Samma city, Donara] - Kell/Unali [Time: 8:39:19 am - Samma city, Donara] - Arawn/Will [Time: 8:04:12 am - Samma city, Donara] - Kiet/Z'leyra Actions? Comments? Next Update...Monday... GM: Sorry for delay. Ran out of time for Monday. Then more and more posts came in which delayed things. So consider this the Friday update. Next one will work on is Monday. I could if time allows work on it maybe Saturday. But no guarantee that afternoon. Fremea - We need to get you some locksmith tools to improve your basic chance. :) But do you deal with the guy or leave? If you deal with him let me know how if kill/knock out/tie up. This guy did treat you as scum but not as bad as Grosis but he was more like a "your a dirty animal get out of my way." No empathy for you at all. Unali - how do you want to deal with this? Fremea never gave orders on how to deal with the guy. Tobie could give that info now though. Arawn now what? Could be hours going through the various shops looking around. If you do go back to shop keep in mind your about 30 min ahead of Z'leyra so they could have left by then to find the 2 houses. Kiet/Z'leyra - Thanks Kiet for commenting on the house. Was hoping to hear on that for followup. But since Z'leyra never did. So now what ? Stay with Etain. Read scrolls? Find one or both houses? As you can see I'm trying to give everyone something to do rather than sitting around doing nothing. Heck, even Will if he was posting. :) GM: Mana report should be in theory updated. GM: Folks are still talking about the gems. So I broke down and generated their info. It is a large file so will place on the website at the bottom of the page (last link). At first I was going to do it by hand. But then it was taking way too long with almost 200 gems it was a lot of dice and time to edit. So I was going to write a quick program to generate it for me. A 10 min program at most. But I forgot I removed the programming stuff to disk for awhile. So I could not. Not without finding them. So I just used the treasure generator to do it. So I did 198 gems. The file you see. Keep in mind I did it per section so first is all Rubies. Keep in mind the program generated its own name but in fact it is ruby or that section gem name. I do not have time right now to do line by line and change the name. Also any mention of Jewelry should be a Jewel. Now you can see the values and see this "fortune". This is the quickest way for me at this time. If someone is bored they can calculate and re-edit the names if they want so folks can choose particular gems if they so desire. I did a quick look and none are magical quality. Hope this resolves some of the issues with the gems.
