The energy of this place is more vivid and full of life. The others say this is one of the biggest cities in the Marentian kingdom. Unlike Katai cities the smells are even different. In Katai there are whiffs of strong incense and spices. Here the smell of the sea and the smell of industry is more evident. She is eager to strip her disguise and fly and fly. The others even mention the Scholar Kaylle who now runs a library on the west side of town. Can you believe it? A Faerry in charge of a human library! Back in Donara he wouldn't even get close to the city without being in danger. Of course the others do mention that while they may have heard of the strange winged beast walking in the library they may not fully understand the situation. So she knows there will be human bias and bigotry here. But that is their problem. After finding Cholan's tavern she explores the city from high up in the sky so no one can scream and run in panic. The city itself seems to be subdivided into 5 or 6 smaller towns that make up the actual city. She can tell where the rich live and the poor live. She can see where the rich market and the poor beg at the markets. She is sad to see even a class system is here though not as evident as in Katai with the caste system there. That night at the party she meets with Kaylle and whispers a few things. She shows and discusses things that the scholar might find interesting. Even to Arawn she seems aloof when others approach their table as they talk. But she is determined to find more info on this Fae girl Ta'lil she found in Katai in Rising Mount. Her body is now at the Vassa sacred forest and she hopes Chion can answer some questions to the Fae rulers there on the girl. Fremea shows Kaylle the book given to her by Luvac. She explains with a bit of awkwardness she can't read anything. She does not explain her past as a slave in Donara. At least for now in the weeks to come when they get closer she will give that out in pasting as they become friends. Kaylle offers to teach her how to read Katai. He only learned recently himself when a new section on Katai military history was given to the library from some Katai diplomat. [Aug 12] Kaylle is gone before sunrise having gone to the library to get it ready. Fremea gets with Chion briefly and asks him to learn anything on Ta'lil he can from the Faerry Hill rulers in Vassa. Then she watches the group teleport away. Fremea eats a breakfast given by Cholan and finds the new fried bread balled up to be fascinating. It reminds her of Sidh biscuits but fried. Soon she heads to the library to learn reading. Kaylle explains that his duties will occasionally make him leave but he can come in to teach during his breaks and off time. Fremea shakes her head at all the books the vast amount of information she can't read. Kaylle begins the basics with the Katai alphabet and does quick flash learning of the set in random drills. During a break Fremea decides to warn Kaylle of the thread to him given to her by Ta'lil. He explains, "I recall her coming by to ask about you. To be honest she is the first Faerry I've seen her in my time here. I was surprised and grateful to find another of my kind. The next day though she sent word by some street kid that she could not return. She would not go into great detail but something about a danger. I honestly think the poor kid got his words confused and probably missed some of the info Ta'lil gave him. I never saw her again." Fremea feels bad for the guy losing a possible friend and informs him of her death at the hands of the Vong. He sighs and shakes his head. "These Vong the group spoke of last night scares and amazes me. I will have to research them here to see if they are in the books. I may interview you and others on the details." Fremea casts a knowledge spell today to gain some personal knowledge. [Aug 13] Today in the eastern part of the wing of the library Kaylle continues his teaching. Fremea is amazed that there may be as many as 50 in the library at any one time. Many children and that will give her some hope. Those who are scared by Kaylle rush out but those who stay either know him or tolerate him as a nice person. Kaylle has a staff of 3 who help him in the library. She wonders if King Maros would have given him the library if the party hadn't done the Climan mission so well. Fremea is trying to write the first pairs of words like cat and dog when she is hit by a flying book on the back of her head. She spins around in the chair but sees nothing. Upset she looks down the various aisles of books in this section. This is only a single middle aged female who smiles and explains she is looking for love poetry. She watches this female and will offer swift justice on her if she tries it again. [Aug 14] Fremea is getting used to sleeping in Cholan's tavern but will buy a place of her own. Seems like Unali is going to do that as well. It will allow her to cast and act as she wants without offense to the other people. By mid afternoon Fremea is starting to get bored from the lessons. She has fallen asleep while Kaylle is digging through books to find a poetry verse. She is suddenly awaken by wetness on her hand. She finds a spilt bottle of ink on the table. She notices it has also gotten on Kaylle's note book. Kaylle becomes upset and she is confused by the event since the ink well was a good 2 feet from her. Fremea is going back to Cholan's tavern when she lands on the street. Suddenly a group of 5 city guards stop her. They draw swords and think she is some wild creature. Before Fremea can react behind the guards Raban appears growling. The lead guard turns and looks up to the giant. "This thing with you?" Raban growls and grabs the man. This is when Cholan comes out and stops the fight. "These are my friends! I will report your actions to your captain tomorrow! Now get out of here before this one pulverizes your face." The guards lower their weapons and rush off without looking like they are running. Fremea is surprised the guards may not have seen a Faerry with Kaylle in the city. but maybe they are new recruits. Now that Fremea is back in civilization she has decided to ensure the reputation of Faerry are well known. She decides to do various pranks in the next few weeks from minor thefts, spilling things, dropping things on people, switching objects and all around fun pranks. Over the next few weeks she spends at least 2 days a week doing these things. [Aug 15] Before going to the library Fremea visits a small market. She is rusty in her skills. She spots a vendor selling nice red and green apples. The vendor is very alert and watches a couple kids who are likely wanting to steal a apple as well. So Fremea decides a good prank is needed. She folds her wings and dons her magical illusion headband. She approaches the vendor and pretends to inspect the apples. She begins to weigh and press down on the apples. But the vendor is paranoid and is staring at her. This will be a challenge. She reaches for a stack of apples at the top of the cart. This causes 4 apples to tumble onto the ground. She looks innocent and sorry but the vendor mumbles as he picks up the apples. AS he looks away she stuffs two apples in her quiver. She then looks at the bunch and asks if he has oranges? The apple vendor looks like the girl is asking if he can fix her boots. He just shakes his head and mumbles. He only sells apples! Fremea decides the man is tortured enough. So she moves down to the next set of stalls. For this vendor a rum vendor looks jovial and smiles at her as he continues to gossip with another vendor. Fremea then tilts her quiver and grabs the two apples in plain view. But who watches a person with a quiver in a busy market? This is more a test of observation than covert action. She places both apples on the stand and walks back toward the apple vendor She then does a heavy cough and the apple vendor looks her way. he wonders if she is going to ask if he sells watermelons now! Then he sees the two apples and rushes over to argue with the rum dealer about stealing his apples. By the time Fremea rounds the corner a market guard is called to stop the fight. She also notices the two boys sneak by and steal 3 apples from the apple stand. She grins and nods to the boys as they run past her. Fremea decides to explore the aisles and look at the pretty covers of the books. She can't read but she can look at pictures. As she stretches she notices a flash from the corner of her eyes. She flies after whatever is moving around and goes from aisle to aisle. After chasing the wind for 3 aisles she finally sees what looks like a glint of purple? She rounds the corner to find the person or thing and then sees nothing but air. After 10 more minutes she decides she must be seeing things. At dinner time Fremea is watching a man walking on the main road near the library. The man is mumbling to himself but it sounds like that strange language Malic speaks. She listens and watches the foreigner go from house to house. After a couple minutes the man finds the place. A brothel with young girls on the porch. Fremea considers placing some prank on this one but knows Kaylle is expecting her back for her last lesson of the day. That night Fremea is flying over the city. It is around 9 and the city is shut down for the most part. She hears a woman screaming down a alley next to a shoemaker's shop. Hovering over she sees a thug ripping her tunic off and cupping a hand over her face. She considers this could be a boyfriend or a husband and those things are best left alone. But it is clear the woman is desperate to get away. Fremea pulls her dagger and lands behind the thug. A swift stab in his left kidney forces the thug to collapse on the ground. The woman looks up now half naked into Fremea's eyes. It is dark but the woman can see her wings shape and she stops making noise. Fremea kicks the thug and watches as the woman runs off. She giggles. She wonders if the woman will report that to the guards about being saved by a flying creature. Fremea checks the bleeding man and finds only 2 lousy silver on him. She kicks the thug again for measure and flies away. As a last bit of fun she drops the 2 silver is in front of the fleeing woman hoping she can buy a new tunic. This time Fremea flies away using the street light of a store lantern to show her full form and she giggles again. [Aug 16] The next day Fremea is on the library roof. Kaylle is off to get some food for lunch (flying) and she watches the city below the 3 story library. All of a sudden a rock hits the back of your head. She spins around with dagger and see a flash of purple go beside a old destroyed crate that may have been used for a seat by some human decades ago. She couldn't find the purple again but just before she gave up she turned to see a purple Faerry hovering over the roof edge staring back. The Faerry is obviously a female but she is all purple and about 20% smaller than Fremea. She does not say anything but hurls a rock. Fremea ducks and when she stands back up she is gone. You look and look but she is gone again. Fremea is not sure if the sun is making you deluded with the book learning so she keep quiet for now. Fremea decides a nice cold beer is needed. At Cholan's tavern she is testing various drinks. Today the beer from Ba'ru seems interesting. A bit tangy though. Cholan tells her not to drink much with her size it might not take much. She looks at the man with the long sideburns and wonders why he doesn't get that obviously hurt hand healed. After a hard and exhausting day it is time for some fun. She spots her target. A merchant who is obnoxious gloating over a big deal he cheated some farmer. Days ago Fremea paid for a flask full of 4 ounces of a fast acting potion. The herbalist said it was used for healers. But given as a full dose of the 4 ounces it can do other things. Fremea slips toward the table the merchant is at. Tonight a singer from the east side of town is in the bar singing some old songs. The merchant is getting into it and she makes her move. She blows out the table candle that is on her table. This makes the corner darker. While the merchant is memorized by the singer she pours the flask into the man's mug. She looks to see if anyone notices but the singing is a major distraction. She then sits back and waits. A half hour later on his third mug the merchant decides to go relieve himself out back. A few minutes later the man rushes back in yelling. "Your food has made me sick!" Cholan looks confused and shrugs. "My ...it was blue! You made me go blue! I need a healer now!" He leaves the tavern as fast as one can do when you find body fluids of a strange color. Fremea giggles then heads upstairs. [Aug 17] The next day Fremea is almost at the library. She is about to land when from a small ledge she sees the purple Faerry. She is staring back coldly and this time she is holding what could be a wand or something. Before Fremea could say anything the purple Faerry raised the tube to her mouth and fired a dart at her. Fremea is agile enough to avoid it. But by this time Fremea gives chase and she flies away. Since she is smaller she is a bit faster. Fremea chases her down winding streets, alleys and roof tops. After the 8th alley Fremea rounds the corner and she is gone again. Fremea searches but lose sight of her. Fremea returns and this time has a dart to show she is not seeing things. Fremea finally asks Kaylle if he has seen her but he has not. In fact as you are talking she appears from a corner out of the blue and Fremea points her to Kaylle but he can't see her. This time Fremea chases her down but she leaps out a balcony door and rounds the corner to disappear. Kaylle is intrigued by this and when Fremea returns he is deep in thought. He says to return tomorrow and he will come up with a possible answer with some thinking. [Aug 18] Fremea heads to the library on the look out for the purple Fae. But she is no where. When Fremea is a block away Fremea find a arrow whizzing by and hit her own backpack. Fremea spins to find the purple Fae on a roof of a bakery. Fremea gives chase and raise your own bow. Fremea fires and miss the first shot hitting a wall. After 15 seconds of chase she somehow eludes Fremea and disappears again. Fremea gets to the library and Kaylle looks haggard from a lack of sleep. He has a large book on the table and shows it. "I think I know what she is. I was researching some Fae legends. I think I may have...accidentally...fully by chance... activated a ..legend...this story here." He flips pages to a place at the rear of the book. "Tells of a Fae that was turned so jealous of her lover that she used dark magic to be his tormentor if he would not be with her. He would torment and torture him from small pranks to full fledged attacks. Then just before he would die she would heal him just to start over the next day. It seems....the male Fae had a powerful magician Elf friend and he trapped her ...well..in this rune here." He points to the glowing purple symbol on a page. "I may have accidentally released her a few weeks ago. This ancient Fae may be trying only to protect me for now. Who knows what she may do when you leave? But you may be a rival and she does not like that." "Her dark magic turned her into a purple color for some reason so she may be a unique one." Kaylle looks away wondering of the Fae might be here. Fremea asks how she might be trapped again. If this Fae chased off Ta'lil from this place then she should be trapped. Maybe she might have lived if not chased away. This has to be the threat she also mentioned. "Well the Elf used a magic item but it is not here. He did write down a fail safe to trap her Need to place her on the book on the rune itself. Then simply banish her. She is not a supernatural force but the rune itself can twist the banish spell to trap her inside the rune itself." Kaylle looks at Fremea and wonders if she is able to do that. Fremea nods and smiles. She moves her hair away from her face and twinkles her eyes. She walks toward Kaylle and he looks worried. "What?..." Fremea reaches for Kaylle and pulls him forward. The young Scholar looks startled. "Hey now!" Fremea plants a big kiss on his lips and waits. Kaylle muffles something but then seems to stop and takes a deep breath when she is done. "Now ...look here! I'm not looking for that....ohh!" For a Scholar Fremea wonders how smart he really is. Two books are tossed at Fremea and both hit Kaylle slamming him back into the book case as Fremea ducks. She giggles and gives chase to the purple Fae. But now she knows the library much better. The Fae is cornered and she draws her bow and fires it at Fremea. Fremea dodges and the arrow hits a shelf. Fremea charges and speaks the magical words needed. The purple Fae bucks backwards and fall asleep. A quick sleep touch spell should keep her out for a bit. With some effort she flies with the body back to the table. Fremea explains that she has no banish spell and so will need to get Z'leyra to help. Kaylle rubs a small bruise on his shoulder from the large book and shakes his head. "You knew before you...Well I can help with this. I had hoped you might have better skill. But I have a light touch that can do it. I'll try." Kaylle is not a trained wizard but learned this from a scroll some time ago. If he can only recite the words. The first attempt does nothing. Then he retries before Fremea goes to find Z'leyra. This time the rune glows bright purple and surrounds the purple Fae with energy. The Fae is then shrunk down and disappears into the book. Kaylle smiles and closes the book. "Whew! I'll hide this book in my private section." [Aug 19] Fremea is flying over a rich neighborhood looking at the nice homes before she goes to the library. She notices the same guard who was almost killed by Raban's protective fists. She lands in front of him and smiles. He backs up and stares. She tells the man that she will not issue a complaint if he will just show her his skills. She wants him to attack her. Confused he shakes his head. She turns back and looks as saying where the nearest barracks are. The man's face turns red and does not want to be embarrassed by some winged freak. He charges with hands out to grab the creature. Fremea can sense this and turns to raise her right arm to yank his left hand toward her. She twists her hip and forces the man to bump against her side and hip. Then she pushes the man forward and over her toward the iron fence of a home. The man hits the metal fence hard and growls. He stands and charges again swinging his fist. She easily ducks and kicks out to trip the man into a mud puddle. Tired of this play she places a nice shiny dagger on his neck and suggests that next time use that human compassion she hears about. She slams his face into the puddle and flies off giggling. After the fun morning and exhausting education at the library, Fremea finishes a meal at a tavern with mostly dock workers. The food is lousy but the conversations is fascinating. She learns who has the best dock masters and which companies ship the most with profit. Once over with the meal Fremea heads for Cholan's tavern for a good night. Suddenly a arrow passes a half inch from her left wing to land on the ground. But another hits her on the right side below her ribs doing 5 points of damage. Spinning she reacts quickly and draws her own dagger. She turns to see two Sprites hovering behind her. She was attacked back in the Dark Lands right at the citadel by sprites and they almost killed her then. Thanks to Corona she was saved. But now she is alone and up against two of them. She flies toward the two hoping to get them before they fire again. This is when another set of arrows fly at her. The first misses but the second hits her in her left shoulder doing 2 points of damage. She falls to the ground flat on her face. The two sprites laugh as best as evil sprites can. They come forward ready to torture the Sidh. Fremea wonders if this will be the end. To die here away from others. she heard a tale about Triest who died in such a random encounter. The Sprites look down standing just above her shoulder at her left shoulder wound. Then they stop laughing. They notice something odd on her left shoulder. One of the sprites begins to speak in that odd language and they both begin to argue back and forth. Suddenly Fremea swipes her dagger right into the stomach of one of the Sprites. She faked the Elf Shot effect as she knows it only so well. Once she saw the Sprites it would be either that or a sleep spell. So she faked the effect to lure them closer. Flipping sidewise she gets to her feet and lunges for the second sprite. The sprite pulls a very tiny knife but the larger Fae's dagger impales deep in his chest. Now with both wounded she kicks the first wounded and continues her attack on the second doing the fatal blow with her dagger. Standing over the last wounded Sprite she stares and can see pure hatred in the Sprites eyes. The sprite spits at her and tries to claw at her but she is too far away. Realizing the sprite is not worth a blood stain her own dagger she steps on the sprites neck and crushes his throat. Limping back she flies toward the tavern. She is unsure if she should go to Z'leyra for help or rest. But knowing about her left shoulder she decides to patch herself. [Aug 20] Kaylle is worried about Fremea's wounds but she is quiet about it and ignores his questions. But the entire day she wonders what the sprites were arguing about. [Aug 21] Fremea spends some time this morning in a herbalist shop to get some more healing herbs. She has no outright healing skills but as a slave she knows enough to keep infection away. The shop clerk stares at her and when a city guard comes in to get some incense for his wife the clerk asks him to get rid of the winged one but in whisper. The guard looks at her and only shrugs. "She has important friends all the way to the Throne." The guard simply says and leaves. The clerk then becomes very attentive and even discounts the herbs for her. That night at dusk Fremea is enjoying the warm air currents and notices a Eagle flying nearby. The eagle watches her but seems to skim the ground mostly looking away. This brown eagle is very pretty and Fremea decides to follow her for a bit to a nest made in a city park. She wonders if Corona will ever have a family. Fremea gets some lesson on throwing random things from Cholan at the tavern. Never know when one may need to throw a mug or crate as a weapon. She learns this that day and the next day. [Aug 23 - 24] Just after sunrise Fremea decides to visit Z'leyra's manor. She misses the Healer and her snow white eagle. Z'leyra is finishing up breakfast and outlines her agenda that day. Fremea only half listens. Something about making more magic items and casting this and that spell. Fremea nods and seems to get distracted by the words. Corona leaves his perch on the roof and this is when Fremea acts. She flies up to the roof without being seen. Then pours a liquid on the area that is the wooden perch. She giggles and then head to see what Z'leyra is doing at the magical anvil. Soon Corona returns and lands on Z'leyra's shoulder after a rest at the perch. Fremea admires the bird but can't resist the fun. Then Z'leyra notices that the dark table cloth on the work shop table is riddled with red marks. She then realize they are talon shape. Corona did rest there as well. Then the stewart mentions her tunic is showing some red marks. Z'leyra soon discovers Corona's talons are leaving red stains. She wonders if it is blood or something else. It takes time to clean but she never discovers how the stains got on Corona. Fremea giggles under her breath. Then to show no feelings she flies with Corona for a bit. Fremea decides to expand her skills. As a slave her master would force her to play act and beg as well as steal. While those skills are naturally against the general view of the party she feels it might be needed in the future. Today she asks Raban some tips on acting. He teaches her a few tips and she wears her old rags costume that makes her look like a human child beggar. She attempts to act as a child beggar to see if she can get just a bit more than usual. Tries different gestures, tones of voice even ensuring less clothing is not worn. She does this 12 times and 3 times she convinces people to give her coins of Silver quality. As expected she gets tons of brass and a few copper. But Silver was her goal. The second day of acting she notices a boy of about 10 is staring at her. The boy looks upset but Fremea likes kids. It is her soft spot. The boy explains that she is not to beg without Juvic's permission. Intrigued she convinces the boy to show him this person. After some walking the two end up at a deserted park on the south side of town. She enters an abandoned two story old house. She is amazed to find at least 2 dozen kids from 8 to 14 it seems. Then she spots Juvic a man in his 30s with a long scar on his left cheek. "You beg on my streets? These are my streets. No one begs without my permission." The man grabs the 10 year old boy and slaps him in the face knocking him down. "Why didn't you teach her a lesson?" He turns to Fremea who is now fuming for the abuse. But she does not have her bow just her dagger. "Let's look at you girl." The man stands in front of Fremea and looks down at her. He grabs Fremea by the shoulder and looks her down. "You could be quite a take. Clean the face...let's see what you have." He begins to pull away the old shirt top of Fremea down. This is when Fremea reaches behind her and grabs her dagger from her belt. She slices upward cutting the man in the chest. The man staggers back. She could have used this man for her own contacts but after treating the kid there is no mercy. Fremea steps forward and kicks the man in the face as he flies backwards on his back. Fremea watches the kids who only stare back. The man pulls a wood plank from the dirty floor and swings it at Fremea. She steps back avoiding the blow. Then charges stabbing the man in the middle of the chest. The man falls to his knees. the man collapses onto the ground. The oldest boy who may be 13 or 14 comes forward. "You killed him! You are now the boss!" Suddenly the kids begin to chant boss. Fremea looks around not knowing what she just got into. For the rest of the next few hours she learns about the group of beggars who steal. Mostly from the poor but sometimes the rich. Everyone ignores the street urchins. Fremea is not sure if she should report these kids or use them. On Augado 24 Fremea casts another knowledge spell today to gain some more knowledge. Fremea casts teleport 5 times to practice her spells. But only 2 fail. [Aug 25 - 26] The next few days Fremea tries to see how skilled these bunch of kids are. She is told that with what they steal and beg they can eat for that day. But at times some kids get sick and may need expenses for healing or clothing. Juvic had at once did that after he took his cut but now Fremea may have to do that over time. One of the boys who is 12 teaches Fremea how to be quick in grabbing from pockets. She tries herself to pick pockets from merchants and other people 10 times. She is good with 3 of the tries but fails on the others. Only once though does the merchant claim she is a thief and she simply runs away to avoid a fight. She is able to obtain 8 Silver and 20 copper with some 22 Brass bits. She turns those over to the kids as a sign of good faith. After all she has good money now. [Aug 27 - 28] Fremea decides to do a 2 day prank. She finds a merchant selling pottery at a outdoors stall. The stall has a good roof overhang that works for her. She decides to annoy the merchant and see if he has some brains. After each transaction this merchant goes to the back and checks on his inside stove that is working on new clay items. When he does she drops brass bits (2-5) each time onto a wooden bucket that is where the merchant has his coins from the transactions. Usually he picks up the coins to place in a box in the back. The first time the merchant figures he was careless and scoops up the bits. By the 4th transaction 45 minutes the merchant is starting to scratch his head. He checks the bucket to wonder if it is now magical that seems to produce coins. From the roof Fremea giggles watching the fun not even seen by the merchant or the others in the alley. The next day she decides to spend 2 hours doing this. She drops this time a couple of copper coins. The merchant is clearly going nuts and asks his friend to watch the bucket from across the alley. But Fremea figures this will be a challenge. The other merchant who is selling cookware watches but is distracted and this is when Fremea drops 3 more brass bits and 2 copper coins. This causes the potter to argue with other merchant. For the next hour the merchant decides to leave the coins in the bucket figuring they will multiply. After 3 more transactions he ignores the bucket. Fremea casts a quick invisibility spell and uses it to then scoop up all the coins and places them onto the cookware merchant's stall while he isn't looking. A pile of about 5 copper and 3 dozen or so brass bits. Not much but an argument comes when the potter sees the bucket on the ground and the pile on the other vendor's stall. Fremea flies off and giggles. Fremea watches Raban acting some ancient scenes from a play in a town square and asks him about acting and disguises. He gives her a few tips and she leaves to practice her new tips. She decides to try 10 times to fool folks. She tries to disguise herself as a noble spoiled brat. She goes into merchants and demands to see the best items like jewelry and gems. She tries to buy a nice horse only on her word as a noble with her father going to pay. OF the 10 attempts though it may be her size, but she is not trusted fully While they may believe she is of high blood she seems to be too spoiled for her good. Only twice does she get away with any full success. Once she is able to convince a gem merchant to ship a nice piece to her estate that she makes up and her father will pay for it later. The merchant does this but later when she is long gone the messenger returns to inform the place does not exist. The other is a boot maker she convinces to make ornate boots for her. But the other times the merchants and other people just rush her off and pretend lip service. For the last 2 weeks Fremea has tried to research through Kaylle about Ta'lil. But Kaylle only finds one book called Exotic Plants and Creatures written some 80 years ago by some scholar. Detailing plants and animals from other lands. Only in this one book is Faerry ever mentioned. The classic story of strange winged naughty creatures that rather steal apples and then run away. This is the only thing that he can find. Chion was also no good in that area as well. Those at the Faerry Hill found no info on her but they are a more dedicated local group of Fae that rarely if ever seen western Fae. Fremea figures that only those in the Wild Forest may know of the dead fae girl. [Aug 29] Fremea has seen how Z'leyra has her large manor, Chion has his unique home and barn and now even Unali has her own place. Others like Caladan and Ben'dar have their own places. But she doesn't know if its time or the place to settle down to a home. But she does need a place she can rest and cast spells in purified areas. Using Cholan's place is risky and dangerous. Plus is a short term place for visitors. So for the last few weeks she has been looking around in her spare time for a place. She finds a small lot with a small home in a middle class but not poor area. The home has a single room and is 250 square feet. Enough room for a bed, workshop area, desk, kitchen area and tables. As well as place for other areas like a stove, dressers and chests. She quickly buys the home which was once used by a book dealer. It is clear the guy liked books since the place came with a nice bookcase and many shelves. One day she will have to fill it up with books that she can read. She has to learn how to read Marentian soon. She quickly pays for furniture to be shipped and stocked. There is a small well, outhouse and tool shed with lock. But the garden will not likely be used. The place has two windows. But she orders a carpenter to remove the door. This way there is no way in but using her teleport spell. A trick she learned form Chion's own home. Makes theft much less probable. But she does need a roof hatch she can open from the inside. Might not be wise to use a teleport just to go to the outhouse out back. Might end up 2 miles away and really need to go if it backfires. So she orders a small trap door for the roof and gets a locksmith to make a high quality lock inside. She will have to do some wards like Z'leyra's place one day. Today the place is finished and she moves in. In the center of the room where her large Bhamotin rug is she purifies the ground for future spells. [Aug 29 - 30] As a slave Fremea had to steal for her master. Some liked to use monkeys to climb windows. But a creature that could fly was great. She has crude lock picking skills. She decides to spend a couple days to practice it and learn it more. She uses Cholan's tavern to pick room door locks when they are empty. Then she tries a few stores at night. Just to see if she can open the doors. She tries to do it a dozen times. She is able to open 3 good locks. In fact one was so fast she barely had time to insert the pick it was a fast pick. But the other times she fails or they are much better locks. [Sepes 2] It is almost 2 weeks later when Fremea encounters the same eagle. This time flying with a mate. The eagles to recognize Fremea and does quick diving runs on her. Not out of attack but as fun as if to see who is the better flyer and faster. Fremea seems to recognize this play time and enjoys a full half hour of acrobatic maneuvers and speed flying. Clearly Fremea is faster but the eagle has a better turn skill than she does. She actually studies this and try to learn from it. Being a slave she could not do such free flying and so this is really brand new. Who knows when turning quickly to avoid an attack will be needed. [Sepes 4] Fremea is flying from a visit to Z'leyra's manor to the market to check on some items. It is now mid afternoon when she sees a very large eagle flying some distance from her north of her. She hovers and watches the wide wingspan and realizes it is not a eagle but a Roc. Arawn had told of such a thing on the ship to Katai. She admires the Roc's smooth flight as it dives and dips on the air currents. [Sepes 4] Fremea is shocked when she spots a house that caters to dog fights. The cruel masters force the dogs to fight to the death. Then the sick humans get rich on the bets that come about. She could free the dogs but that would only lead to other dogs. So maybe its time to teach them a lesson. In her illusion disguise she meets a rich spoiled brat in his 20s who has not worked a day of hard labor The brat is placing a 5 gold bet at 3 to 1 odds on one dog. Seeing this she convinces other betters to bet against the others and the house. Then half a hour before the fight she pours strong wine in the dog's bowls. All three dogs get insanely drunk. Maybe the dogs should have guards to stop this but that's their fault for leaving them ignored in dirty pens. When the fight goes on she watches as the 3 dogs can barely stand much less fight. The crowd gets upset and causes a uproar. She flies away watching the house suddenly became a bed of anger. City guards are called before the owners of the dogs are killed by the mob. Two days later Fremea learns that the magistrate forces the owners to pay the mob all the money which bankrupts them causing them to sell the dogs and their house. Sadly she does not find out what happened to the dogs. [Sepes 10] Fremea feels that if her parents are dead or alive that those in Donara may have some idea. It may be years before she gets there again. But maybe when she does go she can track down them or relatives quicker. In order to do that she will need to learn Donaran. So she asks Kaylle to help teach this language. He agrees for the next 15 days to teach her. It is ironic that she would learn a language whose people treated her only as a slave. If she knew then what she does now she might have been a far more useful slave. That night Fremea feels a new prank is in order. She finds her target a guard who collects the nightly fees from the market stalls. It is a form of taxes and rent combined. But it also ensures the merchants are safe from outsiders and other dangers. The guard heads to the money lender to deposit it. Fremea hires a group of 4 kids by some brass bits to swarm the guard asking for candy. This is a common scenes in cities especially with tourists. So it would not be too rare. The kids do the deed and hound the poor guard for candy. Fremea runs up acting as if she is the big sister and apologizes. As she shoves the kids away she grabs the money bag and turns pushing 2 of the kids away. This keeps 2 of the kids bugging him and keeping him distracted. By the time the guard realizes he has been robbed the kids and Fremea is gone. The next day a charity that feeds sick kids whose families can't afford ford is found to be given a sudden donation of 78 silver. The charity has no clue where it came from. [Sepes 14] Sitting on the Library roof, Fremea is watching the city below with her feet dangling. By now even the locals seem to have gotten used to her. The staff no longer stares and even says hello now. It is breakfast time as her studies are stopped for a break. She is watching the distant sea with her magical spyglass. She can sit her for hours watching the people and the ships. If at the very least it allows her to study human behavior. She notices a fog has fallen from the clouds to the sea and shoreline. She notices with her glass that a small rowboat has rolled over. It had a small child and man on it fishing. She stands wonder if the kid will fall in but he remains in the boat as it rolls back to its side. So where is the man? She considers teleporting there to help. But then notices a creature appear from no where. It uses wings to dive to the water and scoop up the man. It helps the man to the boat and then quickly flies off. She looks for the creature but it disappears in the fog. She later learns from Kaylle that based on her description it was a Aerial Vily. [Sepes 21] Fremea is bored and decides to tease Raban. When Raban goes to dress after a bath at the massage house she plants oatmeal in his boots. It would only be his everyday boots not his fancy ones. After Raban finds the mess he tries to clean it out. But walking barefoot in a street full of horse waste may not be wise. So he has to walk back to the tavern with still boots with some food in them. Raban figures it to be some gal he scorned but never finds the truth. That night he does admit it was a fun trick whoever set it. [Sepes 22] Fremea feels bad for playing the trick on Raban. She has been playing this for some time and finally picks up the item from the jeweler. It is a nice pin that is enchanted for protection against Chaos and Kotothi. The Jeweler had to buy it from a Ba'ru shop. Raban presents the pin to Raban. To her he is just a big brother and unlike the association with Arawn is more kin to a sibling than anything else. As she smiles at Raban's enjoyment of the pin she wonders if she ever had siblings. [Sepes 23] It has been a month since Fremea saved the kids from the clutches of Juvic. She hasn't really let anyone know yet as she has been considering their future. She could have sent them to the state but they would end up in orphanages and the kids spread all over the province. That would be good and cause harm to them. Especially for the siblings. She has spent some free time with the kids learning more about them. Some are actual orphans, some escaped from slavery or abusive homes. Some just decided to be on the street. She is sickened that a few of the girls were used as sex workers. She wish she could kill Juvic five more times. Maybe she can ask Chion to resurrect him to kill him again. She has always been fond of kids. Maybe because they are so adaptable. She was taken in by the kids without bias or even fear. In fact the small kids enjoy flying with her. Could this be how her own parents felt about her growing up? To have someone to depend on you. Fremea decides she will help the kids for their own good. A week ago she found a 2 story closed Inn on the east side of town. Granted it is in a bad neighborhood but it is good to keep a low profile from the city guards. She buys the closed inn which was closed due to bad business. There are 18 rooms allowing 2 kids to sleep in each room. it has a nice kitchen, storage area, common room and a well and outhouse with a bath area with a tub. She ships the kids there and directs the 2 oldest kids a boy of 15 and a girl of 14 to be in charge. She explains that she will help them get some education and she has friends who can heal them and treat for their health. With Kaylle he can help to teach basic skills like reading. She claims this home will be theirs for as long as they need it. She understands that this may ruin their free time and they gives them the choice to leave back to the streets. She will help in other ways and if needed she will call on her friends. She waits an hour and lets the kids talk it over One boy of 10 does decide to leave. He was planning on heading to Maren to join some family there. But Juvic has forced him to stay or he would hurt one of the others. Fremea allows the boy to go and even arranges for a ticket on a merchant ship to go to Maren. Fremea also states some basic rules including that no one will be forced to do things and there will be no exploitation especially for the girls so no more sex. [Sepes 24] Now that Kaylle has taught her Donaran she feels more confident. More civilized and cultured. Who knows maybe one day she will even get a higher station in this world. Proud that a old slave can be taught new tricks she watches a parent yell at some poor boy about 10. Something about stealing a orange. The woman threatens to tan his rear. It is their right to do as the parents wish for their kids. But maybe a good lesson is in order. She watches the two go in and out of market stalls. Fremea had paid for her own orange and waits. The two sit down at a tavern and decide to eat lunch. Fremea approaches the table and deftly bumps against the table as if in accident. She drops the orange into the woman's basket and then leaves without notice. When the two leave the kid sees the orange and questions his mother. She of course says she has no idea where it got there. The kid begins to argue that she must have stole it and soon the roles are reversed. A city guard watches and approaches. He asks the two to return to the market so he can ask the vendor if he is missing an orange. The women looks frustrated and worried. But Fremea finds the face of the boy priceless as he grins. Fremea tells Kaylle of the kids and asks him to help out at times. He replies, "kids? I'm not so good with kids. They need nose wiped and other ends cleaned and always begging." Fremea laughs if only he knew they were beggars once. She explains the kids are old enough aside form a few kids around 7 or 8 that can take care of themselves. The other kids will take care of the younger ones. Kaylle agrees to help as he can in his spare time. But then Kaylle becomes serious and leans in to give some news.... Actions? Comments?
