If additional work is needed (Regrowth, for example) then Arawn will do at the appropriate time after consultation with Z'leyra. He'll also use that time to begin tutoring Z' leyra in the Healing Mist spell. GM: Ack. This came in late so was not added to last update but it was done regardless. As to tutoring you will have to get with Z to figure out her IBT since she has not defined IBT time the entire trip as I've warned before. :) So if she needs the education she'll need to define it otherwise it will just be a simple viewing of skill. From Kiet: [Re: Actions] Since leaving Marentia, Kiet has not been more looking forward to a rest. Especially after thsse spiders (he shudders). Kiet is right there with Kell....get a hot bath, some hot food, and a comfortable place to rest and sleep. But first, there is work to do. Once we figure our place to stay, Kiet will try to get a room for himself. Kiet asks the proprietor for three things: first is where to take the horses. Second, is for someone to help with his gear to the room, and third is for someone that will clean and oil his maile. Kiet will accompany the horses to the livery stable. He instructs the kid that takes the horses to make sure they are washed and well bruised down. Also, to provide them with some fresh hay but keep them more on grains than hay. Kiet then r emembers to tell him to make sure they are kept warm. Before Kiet leaves, though, he gives the animals a thorough going -over, looking for any problems, checking shoes, general health, etc. Make sure to also let the kid know that a good job will be well rewarded. If anybody else asks for it, Kiet will be happy to check and evaluate their horses too. Kiet will then wait until the help arrives for his gear. Kiet hands the help his bags and backpack and they head back to the inn. Once they get to his room and the stuff is dropped off, Kiet asks the kid to arrange a hot bath for Kiet and a hot meal to follow. Hand him a copper for his trouble. After Kiet gets cleaned up, he makes sure his armor is taken care of. Then he heads out to town looking for some food. Kiet snacks on what he can find but is really looking for some trail rations. He looks for about three days worth of bread, and about a weeks worth of cheese, smoked sausage, and dried fruits. Besides his clothes and belt items, Kiet will keep his knives and sword with him...and his boots. Assuming the group gets together for dinner, Kiet offers to buy the first round...two for Pyan. GM: Ack. Good stuff. From Z'leyra: [Re: Actions] Z'leyra plans to study the Healing Mist spell as much as possible while traveling. In discussions with the other magic casters in the party they determine what might be safe or risky to use on someone already healed magically for future reference. Upon talking with Trihs Der (Red Shirt) Z'leyra decides against using Oblivion on his friend's body. She thinks of offering to try to slow the process of decay by the use of Foyson theft...but determines that the body is too large for her skill and cutting up the body so that her skill could handle the chunks would not be a good idea even to mention. Z'leyra tells the rest "We can afford to stay a couple ... GM: Ack. Again as the last few updates End of Leg updates speak no IBT was defined so you earned no skill points. GM: Ack. ------------------------------------------------------------ [New Stuff] [Eastern Zarun - Plains] [Decalis 10th, 1634TH] [Time: 9:45 am] Entering the city the party knows now that no one in the party speaks Zarun at all. Z'leyra tells the rest, "We can afford to stay a couple nights here. First we should get a inn to stay at, then we should advertise our availability of using magic to teach folks languages for a nice fee. Also we have other things to sell, and perhaps some to buy. Any suggestions?" Kiet notices Kell's face stricken with concern and speaks up reminding the Healer of the notes from Kaylle. "Um, Z, aren't they somewhat paranoid about magic here?" Kiet continues, "I wasn't planning to cast anything here just to make sure. I don't relish burning at the stake." Kell speaks low so not to be heard in Marentian, "it is not as bad as say Katai. They are just ignorant I'm told by Kaylle. Ignorance breeds distrust and distrust breeds hatred. I suspect they would be more scared of magic like cats are with water." Distracted by the aspects of being so close to home, Z'leyra nods, "Oh drat!, you're correct. I forgot about that." Replies Z'leyra. "Thanks for reminding me. I guess we had better hold off on any public magic till we are out of Zarun." "Since we won't be advertising and selling magic, I guess we should just stay the one night selling off the unwanted bandit loot and head out in the morning. Best wishes to those who are leaving us here. Trihsder, we are sorry for the loss of Reddof. You can take his and your share of the loot. Hopefully his family will appreciate it. " Red Shirt who is dressed in a dark red tunic this day just glares lightly at Z'leyra. Then he stares at the body on the horse drawing stares from those walking by mostly twitching noses from the smell. He scans the bustling city from the gates and softens his stare. He nods, "Accepted. I will get a ship and take him back to Sivas. Thanks for travelling with me." Kell realizes their main problem and speaks up. "We will need help with the language." He dismounts and walks to a vendor selling very bad copies of local maps and camping gear at a street booth. He begins to speak in various languages. The man finally nods at Donaran. "Do you know of people who can help translate for our friends?" The man looks bored then looks at passer bys. Kell knows the routine. "That pan there on the wlal. I'll but it. I need to do more cooking on the road." He speaks in Donaran and the man brightens up. Kell pays the man and he suddenly starts to recall a few things. "The large market in the south east may have folks who speak many languages. No! Wait. Go two streets south and 3 west. There is a survey shop there with a sign of two long stakes on it. Next door is a messenger shop. I've heard some merchants hire kids from there. I even heard one kid knows Fomorian!" Kell nods and adds a very light tip and mounts back up after placing the pan in his bag. [Time: 10:08 am] The group find the survey shop which is busy with farmers going and leaving. At the messenger shop a large fat middle aged man nods. He calls one boy out who may be around 15. The boy speaks up, "I speak Marentian." Kell nods but Red Shirt asks one boy to help him as well. Kell nods and ask the boy if he knows two others who can help. The group relays various languages to him. Soon a girl around 17 and a boy around 14 appear. Kell looks to the others, "we may need 2 just in case. We may need to split up or something." The fat man says it will be 5 Brass Bits per kid. But Kell hands him 3 copper for all 3 for the day. The Kids light up but the man takes 1 copper himself. Kell frowns but this is how things work. Introductions are made by the kids. Kell asks about a good moderate Inn and nice stables for the night. The 14 year old kid gives directions. Red Shirt takes the 14 year old boy and the girl and 15 year old boy leave toward the Inn. But Red Shirt explains, "I will find your Inn for my share. I need to do something with him first and find a ship for the morning." The party except for the cousins head west and then south moving closer toward the light middle class area of the city. Traffic diminishes a bit. It turns out the boy was correct this section is more for merchants and travelers with nice homes. The boy explains the rich and some nobles live in the north end of town away from the water. The Inn called The Bore Hole shows a sign with a piece of timber with a hole in it. It is a large two story place that could maybe house 45-50 rooms which for most cities of this size that's rather large. It has nice outhouses and a stable next door owned by the Inn itself. The property is walled with a stone wall 6 feet high with large hedged giving privacy. Some are outside eating in the large back patio area. A couple stay with the horses as rooms are checked for. Together Kell and the messenger girl Takaz haggle over rooms. Finally Kell speaks up, "6 copper for a common room which includes a small meal. Private rooms are 12 copper and includes a small bottle of ..." He glances over to ensure the owner is not understanding Marentian, "..cheap wine. The stables which he owns is secure and guarded as is the Inn by 3 guards nightly. He charges 5 Copper for each horse which is a bit high. I got him down to 2 but doesn't include hay and cleaning so I think 3 will be fair for each horse." "He has 8 common rooms and 5 private rooms left today out of 42 in total. He warns that by noon ships come in and he loses more rooms." The party leaves and stores the horses except the bandit horses into the stable. There are 4 stable boys and 1 woman who seems to be supervising tack and saddle management. Hay is dirt cheap here being a farming area about 3 times less in Sivas. Kiet ensures the stable boys do them good by cleaning, feeding and housing the horses. The 11 horses are left and the stable lady only charges 13 Brass Bits for the hay for all and another 47, after haggling it down with Kell, Brass bits for cleaning and grooming for a total of 5 copper. The messengers remind that Marentian coin may not work in every market. They tell of moneylender shops if needed. From the Inn 3 teen boys rush out to collect the gear using a cart by the stables. Kiet and others ensure all gear are taken with care and into the rooms. Mainly to ensure nothing is taken. [Time: 10:42 am] Finally with gear in rooms the party begins to relax in the tavern downstairs or heads back into the city areas. Kiet asks about a hot bath. The teen girl translates, "We have a bath house in the back sir! We are no cheap peasant place with buckets! Sadly we only have 3 tub stalls. We do plan to make it larger once we buy the property next door one day." The man explains using hot stones from a stove they heat piped in water from a nearby fountain/well. The water is stored in a tank and heated. He charges 1 copper per bath and gives cheese and bread as a snack. Ale and Wine will be extra." Kell grins and reserves a bath. The man explains only 1 stall is used now. Kell jump on the chance and both Kiet and Kell pay the copper first. Grinning they begin to leave to for the bath but Kiet recalls something. The acrobat asks about cleaning his chainmail. The man frowns and seems to realize that service would be great to add! The girl translates, "there is a shop 2 streets south of here. It is half a smith and half a tailor shop they do that kind of thing. I will have one of my ads fetch the mail and take it by cart." Kiet holds off explaining bath first. [Time: 11:09 am] Kiet and Kell finish their bath. Mid way through the 3rd stall becomes empty and Zabyra heads to take a bath as well not shy at all. Kell grins but realizes that the curtains block most of the good views. The others wait and warm up by the fire taking wine, ale or hot tea. Finally Kell and Kiet return all smelling a bit of some spice water scents but oh so clean and warm. The party decides that they will eat dinner later and can do their own thing. But Z'leyra, Kell, Kiet and possibly others head to the markets to sell the gear. [Time: 11:20 am] First the bandit horses are sold in a horse market that houses 3 big corral vendors. The second dealer seems to have the best price but Kell and Kiet with the girl haggle over the deal. In a place like Maren these horse could be worth 16-18 gold each. But here in a farming city it will go less though they have herds and farms the riding horses sell less than work horses. The second horse sells for only 7 gold as the dealer complains of age and wear The other two horses sell decent for this city at 12 and 14 gold. For a total 33 gold. The goblin 3 clubs only sell for 6 copper which is only about a 3rd might get elsewhere. The two goblin swords are sold for 7.5 silver. The 10 goblin fighting daggers are sold for 130 copper. The spider furs are harder to sell it takes almost 45 minutes to sell them from vendor to vendor. Finally a furrier buys them for 18 gold. This gives a total of 53 gold and 11 copper for the bandit and spider combats. Kiet pays the party 3 gold for the goblin sword. [Time: 12:55 pm] The party splits up for lunch and other personal errands. Kiet and Kell go find a nice tavern for lunch that has a nice band of 3 which includes 1 singer who is fairly good. Both do not understand the words but the girl translates. The other boy stays with the others in case they need a translator. [Time: 2:03 pm] Kiet, Kell and the 14 year old boy translator explore the markets. Based on Kaylle's comments that they import a lot of metal and fine goods this is proven by the stalls. High prices even for basic raw metals. Even a simple shovel is around 2-3 more expensive here than elsewhere. But foodstuffs and items like meat and wool are cheap here due to the large herds. Kiet buys food for the trip for 3 days of travel. He notices one vendor selling bags of something he calls trail mix. The vendor explains it is peanuts, grapes, raisins, various nuts, jerky, hard crackers and cheese bits. The vendor offers samples and Kiet buys a bag for 3 copper. Kell buys a bag for himself. But Kiet supplements with bread, week's worth of cheese, smokes sausage and dried fruits Kell notices a fruit sold from Gom called a Pamari which is a cross between a pear and a soft juicy core the color of green. It looks bad but the juice is tangy and sweet. He buys two for the road. [Time: 5:12 pm] By now folks return to the Bore Hole for dinner Some have also taken baths and cleaned up. Kiet goes to check on the horses with Kell. They had checked the horses earlier for damage or sickness but the horses are in good shape except for some teeth cleaning needs to be done. But by now some have been groomed and fed. Only 4 horses to finish up before the boys head home in a few houses not including a half dozen other horses. Dinner is served with local steaks, deer meat, seafood and a local delicacy of bird that the girl translator explains is like a dove but is brown but plump so much it can't fly. Served with local spices and soaked in a wine Kell loves the bird. Kell is also surprised to find a Ba'ruian wine that he chooses. [Time: 6:18 pm] With dinner finished the entertainment is mid finished. It is a local trio of actors who explain the past deeds of the hero Melanius Zendar who used the Life Sword. Though the language barrier is deep the party is intrigued by the mini dialogue play. [Time: 6:21 pm] The acting done the patrons start to head to their rooms and the city starts to shut down for the cold night. Based on the admiral bandit combat, spider combat and the forest bandit treasure the party gets 6,711 copper coins. Kell calculates divided up by 11 is 610 copper coins with 1 copper left over. He looks up from his parchment and announces his results. "I say the extra copper goes to Pyan's family. I myself will give him some of my share for the most part." Kiet figures that is still 6 gold and change each. Not much but for a simple 24 day journey doing nothing but camping and riding 6 gold is free gold. [Time: 6:40 pm] The party soon realizes that Zabyra has been missing for some time they realize she wasn't at dinner. Some start to panic and check the rooms. Distracted by the dinner and actors the dancer was not noticed. She may be lost or anything. But as the party starts to move out to check the city and rooms she returns with Red Shirt. Red Shirt is seen though this time with a slight limp and a black eye on his left. The grim faced man finds the party and gets his share for himself and Pyan. As Red Shirt is at the bar, Zabyra whispers to the group. "I was curious. I followed him after my bath and tracked him down. He was indeed at the docks and from the handshakes booked passage with a ship. Reddof was placed on board in a coffin laced with items to dampen the smell. I know some sailors are used to death on board so its not a big deal. From the docks I followed him to the west side of town where he watched a small boarding house for two hours. Then he entered and I heard fighting. I wasn't sure to enter or not. He came out with a man as old as the bar keep there. He had shackles on his arms. His nose was bleeding and the man had cuts on his face and arms." She turns to ensure Red Shirt isn't coming over. "He took the man to a jail house. Outside I saw him present papers to a guard and the guard hauled the man inside. I then pretended to bump into him and he explained. He and his cousin were here to capture a Marentian bounty. Seems the man had kidnapped a girl. A daughter of a Marentian count raping and killing her. The count, the local duke and even the King he said put in funds for the bounty. He said he would take him back on the ship tomorrow to Sivas." Zabyra takes a few sips of her hot tea and seems to look down at her mug. "I am sorry. I can't explain it but I feel I need to return with him. I think he could do harm to this prisoner....he needs...a woman to help during the long trip. For his sanity and his soul. I am grateful for your patience and help. But I will end our relationship tonight with you. I hope to see you back all safe and well in Sivas." Kiet frowns at the news. How does this Red Shirt dude get the girl? Is it the red shirts? Actions? Comments? Next Update.....Monday... GM: A place to stop for now. Let me know if anything else to do in the city. I work Thursday and in fact I should be working every Thursday till September next year so this will go back to normal schedule. This causes issues with Friday updates. Based on how much time I have. I will tend to start Wednesday on it but if can't finish it then no update Friday. This week is Christmas so there is a 95% chance of no update for Friday. I have things to do Thursday night. I may do a update Wednesday if I get time for Friday but no for sure thing. Monday I will move the party to Aratad city. There are 2 minor encounters but nothing needing major input so I will cover them and move on for sake of time. So the next update the party will be in Aratad city. I have posted the next agenda for the next few Legs. You can assign IBT or change it as needed. I will update IBT results after each leg. You can plan actions in said cities if need be. If my estimation is correct Dec 27 is when party should enter Ticasi city. Z'leyra if you want to assign a stay/no stay/sleep/actions for each city in the below lists you can pre-advance plan it. It will speed things up. Basically on road 30 miles per day. Off road Once leave the road I will have to refigure out speed. It will be either 21 or 25 miles per day roughly so you can estimate travel times. I may be off a day or two but this is just an estimate. Z'leyra if you want to take another travel route skipping cities you can do so but I will assume the travel agenda below unless stated otherwise. By 6th leg I'll be using Winter Weather rolls. Food and other issues can be pre-planned as well if needed. While Julian deals with personal life issues I got word that a old player may return. This one was very active so we shall see.
