Did you see the stuff on the books? I spent like I dunno 30 min on those figures. :) From Kiet: [Re: Actions] [Time: 2:54 pm] I saw some guy, tall guy with a hat, go into a shop, but he was carrying a vase that looked exactly like one I thought I saw at Poorda's. When I followed him, he went into the shop and sold the vase. Afterward he went to a, er, gambling hall and started playing. I waited a bit and young Garr Smith shows up! From Kiet: [Re: Actions] Dangit...I keep hitting the wrong button...see below response. Ooooohhhh....that's where it is. I don't have any way to word search it without a bunch of extra work. Don't assume Kiet says anything...this is a RPG...not a Rocket Propelled Grenade, though they have them in abundance in these environs (Israel)... As far as I am concerned, Kiet waited until he could tell everyone together. GM: Ack. Blame Iran for keyboard failures since no Dwarves are probably on your team. Word search for what? This is why I have all files in one folder so I can search for certain words later on. But only yeah. Its impossible. It works for me when told folks. I could not include Z in the one part as was being watched. From Kell: [Re: Actions] Kell listens about the vase and lil Gar Smith. A thought hits him, “Kiet, how do you know it was Poorda’s vase? What.. GM: Ack. From Arawn: [Re: Actions] Rest and Game Delays: I'm fine with delays, especially as I've barely time to sit and read posts lately. But, regardless, get some rest and find time for yourself on a regular basis as you shouldn't need to full any sense of rush on the game. Orange and Red Vase: Scott, the vase is mentioned in the paragraph just before the 3:12pm time stamp in Update 40a. Also, I'm assuming Arawn and Kiet would have traded information on what they saw/heard while they ran from the gambling hall to meet with Z'leyra but let me know if this isn't the case, David. ------- 2:54pm "The Smith clan is working with the Ki land developers .. 3:13pm While some began to make orders or plead innocence or.. OOC: If the Deputy pulls the group to Poorda's house and he doesn't think of doing it Arawn will ask him to leave some constables at Z'leyra's to ensure that no one tampers with the site for now. --------- OOC: If the game pushed far enough ahead and it looks like the entire group will be arrested then Arawn will speak with dean of the law school, asking for his assistance to speak on the party's behalf, suggesting that all suspects be apprehended (Councilman Smith, Garr Smith, Milo Smith and developer Ki, along with placing a halt on any tampering/ development of property pending the conclusion of the investigation as they are now parts of a crime scene), otherwise Arawn will speak directly to the Deputy in this regards, quietly so as to not call out names. Otherwise, if the party is going to be let free (or at least some of them) he'll only ask that the locations are kept under watch and to halt any development until the investigation is done. In such a case, if Arawn is free, he'll happily hold on to Z'leyra's gear until she's freed. Arawn has more to share with the group but I'll wait to post this until I know we're alone to discuss things. GM: Ack. Thanks. That's two who feel like that. Yeah. I started this Saturday and got some of it done. But come home tonight 6pm and theres 5 more posts and emails. It is 11:30 and I'm not done with Recap (old stuff before doing new stuff). Probably be midnight and I gotta get up at 6 to take nephew to work On my day off at 6am. Sigh. If I stay up to my normal 3am time that only 3 hours sleep for tomorrow with a movie and come back and work on this. So it happens. It would be nice to have some time and delays that aren't a major hassle to some. OMG! you found the case entry. So I was not wrong. Err..wait the dwarves. I think I owe them a barrel of rum. Your good. I looked for that using grep to search for Vase but for some reason it never found that in those 3 posts. Weird. Thanks. Course you scare me with these things making notes. I'll forget something and 3 years later you bring it up. :) As to keeping suspects around you may need to RP that part as that might be a critical thing to do not just paraphrase the action. ------------------------------------------------------------ [New Stuff] [Ticasi] [Decalis 24th, 1634TH] [Tiren/Z'leyra's House] [Time: 2:54 pm] Kiet gathers the party to the side and explains what he was up. He ensures he can't be heard by others. Since the truth will be given soon once Z'leyra does her spell he needs to give this info. "I saw some guy, tall guy with a hat, go into a shop, but he was carrying a vase that looked exactly like one I thought I saw at Poorda's. When I followed him, he went into the shop and sold the vase. Afterward he went to a, er, gambling hall and started playing. I waited a bit and young Garr Smith shows up! They obviously know each other and talked for some time. After that, Councilor Smith shows up and asks his son if 'that is the guy'. I don't know what for. Anyway, then they left...and I found Arawn and Corona then came back here." Kell listens about the vase and lil Gar Smith. A thought hits him, "Kiet, how do you know it was Poorda's vase? What about that shop, what do we know?" Kiet looks over to his friend and replies, "Well, it's a very distinctive vase. So much so that only a dwarf could miss it!" "The Smith clan is working with the Ki land developers that have been purchasing the local land, including efforts to grab Poorda's property. Whatever they have planned they have moved up the time table from 4 days to 2 days from now due to efforts by Councilman Smith to influence the Council. As to the vases, I'm beginning to wonder if they might be used as some sort of marker or magical device. So it could be worth tracking down the gentleman Kiet discovered in the gambling hall. And it might worth checking into the shop where the vase was sold if only to see if anything unusual has occurred there." [Time: 2:59 pm] The Akasha spell begins to work and then the illusion is shown to the audience. As the scene unfurled before them Arawn's thoughts began to drift from Ticasi to distant Kameran. When Z'leyra had shared her history during the lunch he had begun to wonder if the origins of the family's suffering may well originate there. Now, with the akashic reveal and familial reaction, such thoughts grew once again, the Alfar wondering if there was more than one mystery to be discovered on the road to the shamaness's vindication. But such thoughts would have to wait to be shared as news of Poorda's demise fell upon the gathering's ears. [Time: 3:15 pm] Z'leyra hold up her hands and loudly states. "Of course you must arrest me while this is figured out. But it must be obvious to all that if I had done the deed I would not have come back to show that I had done so. I suggest that whomever 'suggested' that I wear this color and style of clothing may have known that whoever was disguised as me when they killed Tiren was dressed thusly. Or was someone who would know that if I did do an Akasha I was to be dressed thusly. Further I suggest the disguise is most likely an illusion that would not last long. Doing an Akasha to follow the person forwards or back from the act should reveal who they really are when the illusion is put on or wears off or the disguise is put on or taken off. If no one else is going to do so I certainly have motivation to cast the necessary Akasha spells to follow that person." Councilor Lental perks up, "the clothing we gave you was not by choice but by random selection. We simply had some person go gather some. In magical trials I'm told this is a common thing. So that line of reasoning is probably futile." As the Constable cuffs Z'leyra, "I'm afraid. That might be wise But I've been briefed on this rare spell. Maybe at most 2-3 in this city know it. I'm told maybe a half dozen a year graduate with such a rare spell. But what we do know is you can't just randomly go back and forth like some book. You only see one set period. You'd have to cast many many to chase this person. What if she were to get on a horse. Then what? You cast it in a small area then move on the next 50 or so feet. Taking days to find her final destination?" He shakes his head in dismay. "No. We must follow other avenues at this point." Z'leyra continues while holding out her hands for the cuffs, "And any who call for the arrest of those who hadn't been in Ticasi until a couple days ago and have broken no laws here are obviously just trying to prevent proper and complete investigation of this crime! I state truthfully and will later under oath and truth spell that I did not kill my father. That I believe he was murdered by someone who disguised or illusioned themselves to look like me while they did the deed. Though I note that complete investigation should also check the Dreammaster's item for the possibility of altering images. Since Poorda was a witness to a suspicious person around the time of the fire it is possible that someone is trying to cover their tracks, her death should be looked at carefully...and with an eye towards someone using magics to cover their tracks." The constable finishes cuffing the healer. The deputy stares a bit dumbfounded and irritated. "You of all people know one can be forced into acts not wanting. The idea of compulsion or Geas for example. If you did not do this then maybe you weren't even aware. As to your friends." He waves toward the party. "They are not under arrest. We do ask they remain in the city for questioning." The deputy glances to the Law dean for advice. Who steps forward. "This is standard procedure. All aspects will be investigated. This item the Dreammaster perfected long ago only contains images. The gem itself would actually shatter if any magic was cast on it. This gem I'm told is super rare and would not be wasted in that regard. But to comply we will ensure this." Z'leyra shrugs not overally satisfied, "Arawn, could you look after my gear whilst I am under arrest?" Hiding his surprise at the suggestion that all of them are arrested, he states gently but firmly to the Constable, "When did it become a crime to be a friend of someone who is under suspicion?" Glancing around, then to Mr Smith, of course the one that suggested they all be made very comfortable and under the city's special care. Hoping the constables follow through on Z'Leyra's suggestions, as they are the only ones that make sense. There are already two witnesses here that can vouch for her attendance in class. The deputy crosses his arms and looks at Kell. "There is no crime here but association in this regard causes suspicion. We must eliminate all things involved." Martin raises his voice, "no crime! That one killed her dad a close friend to this city and myself. These had something to do with the theft of my coin bag. That one there!" He points to Pyan. "He was only like a foot behind me in that tavern and could've done it then. Maybe you should search him!" Pyan stares and looks to the others. For weeks he could not understand Marentian. Now he can well but now he is clearly either laughed at or threatened by this man some how but he can't understand the words.. Kell pauses to take a deep breath, then addresses the Constable. "Sir, we already have two witnesses present that can vouch for her attendance in class that day. Z'Leyra herself states she was in class, as do these witnesses that provided their information without any prompting. There is no motive for her to commit this crime, none at all. Motive is as important as anything when investigating a murder," glancing to the Lawyer and other councilors, " just as important as the ability to commit the murder. What motive is there for her? None. There is none." The two classmates nod at this. Arawn notice Hayna squirm a bit and begins to look away toward Poorda's place. Smith glares at this kid, "motive? This so called great mystery of the metal? To sell. To develop. To educate. If she wanted all that for herself then that is motive!" Pausing again to make sure he is composed and tight, just like a good business transaction, knowing this is much more important than any mere business transaction Kell continues, "I suggest you follow the good Z'Leyra's suggestion and check the Dreammaster's item and for other people here that have a true motive. Perhaps the motive was more for this land than to murder good Tiren." Kell ponders quickly the choice to accuse Smith and Smith Jr here and now, or to wait. He is a powerful man that is already upset and annoyed and downright pissed at the party. Will another minor, or maybe not minor, accusation matter? Normally he is very decisive about this, yet holds off on a decision for now. Perhaps something after this will force him to speak against Smith and Lil Smith. For now he will hold his tongue on accusing Smiths. No, the Trader does not intend that any of them should be arrested, and will use all his wiles and negotiation and lawyering and oratory skills to that end. Z has had a rough enough day as it is, before being arrested. Kell is scanning for any other magic used here, and looks questioningly at Arawn and Fremea as well, trying to invoke a "do you see anything" vibe to them. Looking for Kiet, he hopes the Acrobat can add something as well. The deputy looks to the Law dean and nods that the Dean may have more authority here. The Dean steps a bit closer to Z'leyra. Then he points to the contstables. "You two head to the house with the lady. Ensure this woman is dead. If so secure the scene and cordon it off. Let no one in the area until the investigator arrives. You, fetch a crime investigator from the garrison. You, take the names of these people as we may need to call on them later." Kiet waves everyone but Z'leyra nearby. Getting Z'leyra to hear would be difficult with the others watching. Kiet calls the remaining group together and says in Katai (and trying to keep anyone from overhearing), "Oh my gods! I think the Smiths, father and son, put that third guy with Poorda's vase up to killing her! That vase, and the shop owner that bought it, will be able to corroborate that it was sold by him. And we should be able to get witnesses from the, er, gambling hall that tie him to the Smiths." Pyan stares dismayed that now the silly acrobat is talking in another language. These people will not jabbering on and on around him! Then Arawn leans in and translates for the hunter. Kiet turns to the deputy. To the constable, Kiet says, "You do know it is a simple matter to disguise oneself to look like anyone? I could demonstrate if necessary." If it is necessary, Kiet casts an EL0 Personal Illusion to change into a (likely) shorter image of the Constable. Then he dispels it. "Constable, given the image recorded, was the person in that image the same height as Z'leyra? Did she move the same way? Did that dagger have any distinguishing marks? Left or right handed?" The deputy stares at the acrobat as he tries to cast the spell. But the deputy sees what Kiet doesn't. That there was no illusion. Arawn grimaces that he is holding the item that cancels illusions and no illusion was cast. The deputy nods then glances at the crystal in the talisman. He heads over to pick it up. "I'm told this thing only keeps info for only 18 hours. After that it degrades every hour. We must resolve this by tomorrow morning at least as to the images. Others will have to examine it closer. " Martin Smith whispers to Garr and the son nods. It is so quick that before Arawn even considers a spell to listen the whisper is over. Garr breaks off from the group and heads to the wagon. The friend of Poorda's waves the two constables with her and they rush to the west to her house. While some began to make orders or plead innocence or exclusion he focused elsewhere as a more immediate issue pressed upon them. "Why are we standing around? Save this for later," he said. "Poorda's dead or close to it. We should head there in case she can be revived or before evidence is tampered with!" Arawn wanted to rush to Poorda but looked to the deputy first. "This is your jurisdiction, sir, but I'd like to help if I can." The law dean turns to the party, "you are not under arrest. However, we do not want you to leave if possible. In fact I'm ordering your vault of items secured. Gate guards will be notified to look for you. First thing is we will take Z'leyra back to the law school. We will summon a judge and at least 3 council members as co judges. We will then summon witnesses from this group and others if possible." Hayna leaves the group heading south after giving her name to a constable for noting. She watches the trio heading to Poorda's group. AT that same time Garr Smith mounts the wagon and turns it around and starts off east the way he came from earlier. The Dean continues, "we will view the crystal illusion a few times until we are fully satisfied. We will also summon teachers who are expert in the areas of illusion and disguises as well. The council has affirmed the crystal to only be storage of information nothing more so the council is assured or it's integrity. However if you insist we will assume experts who can examine it as well to sense magic." He glances back at the standing magic detector which points toward the talisman but knows the talisman is magical. He motions for the deputy to remove the crystal. Then moves away from the deputy about 1 feet. Getting closer to the magic detector in the yard the detector does not move from pointing at the talisman which is closest. He looks to the others to show that no magic is detected. "To me this should be definitive but if you insist. " He hands the crystal to a constable who places it in a bag. The dean looks to Letal, "would you care to be co judge?" Lental considers for a moment, "for later today or tomorrow?" "I suspect they want this settled today. Normally this could take man days or weeks." The dean watches Garr leave the street. Lental nods, "fine. I had a meeting with a merchant but I can put it off until later tonight." The dean nods then looks to Martin Smith. The party realizes what he is about to ask and grimaces clearly. The deputy waves to one constable, "she can go back inside to change to her other clothing. Her gear will be not given at this point though for security. Uncuff her and watch her if a problem let us know." One of the two last constables waves to Z'leyra to the house. Lental hands the bag of clothing to the constable. The dean opens his mouth to ask Martin Smith something but is interrupted by Z'leyra's uncle. "Excuse me. We are ignoring the man who came in before the girl. Who was that?" Uncle Hammerhand asks. The dean turns to deputy not knowing the answer. The deputy shakes his answer. Garr not Smith but Z'leyra healer teachers speaks up. "That is Milo Smith." Martin Smith turns westward showing concern for poor Poorda not seeming to hear the professor. Arawn looks stony faced as he knew this already. As others stare at Martin Smith, Arawn uses his chance. Using a one word Eagle yelp he tells Corona to follow and with subtle hands points to Garr Smith's wagon. The dean looks at Martin, "any relation?" "Poor Poorda wasn't she old and maybe she just died from old age?" Martin Smith shakes his head. The deputy clears his throat, "Councilor please answer the question." ""Hmm..what?" Martin Smith glances the other way to ensure his son has disappeared and he has. "Milo Smith any relation?" the law dean asks. "Oh sorry. Yes. My brother. I'm sure he would have been here many many times. He is professor of Mining and Ore Processing and Chairman of Orto Mining. Dealing with Tiren would be a common thing as many in the schools from the city would as well." He waves a hand as if its no big deal. Uncle Hammerhand crosses his arm, "maybe but he seemed to argue with Tiren." Martin sluffs it off, "many argued with Tiren. He was a very stubborn man." The law dean nods, "Constable summon Milo Smith as well to this hearing." "But...but he is a busy man. I'm sure he could maybe meet in the morning." Martin Smith smiles showing his teeth in full white glory. "We shall see. If not today he'll have to be summoned in the morning. As one of the last men to see Tiren alive he may have some insight." The dean nods and looks around. "As to searching that one." He looks to Pyan. "Do you give permission?" The deputy looks to the others. "If you wish to speak for the defendant you can meet us at the law school or let us know so we can summon you as needed." That reminds the dean to turn back to Martin, "I was going to ask if you would be a co judge but seeing as a brother may be ...involved that would cause a conflict of interest. I will have to check with my own Councilor to see if it is possible." Martin shrugs, "I would be honored to speak on behalf of my old friend Tiren. If you decide summon me. I am ...going to head to my office and ensure my schedule is free." With that he begin to move quickly away from the group eastward. One constable finishes taking names of the others then moves on to the party to take names. The deputy turns to Z'leyra and gets closer, "I am sorry for your loss. Seeing this today was not a good thing. I assure you we will get justice for your father. One way or another. I will escort you now to the law school." He waves a constable to follow. This leaves just one constable left taking party names as witnesses. The law dean speaks to the lone constable, "join me at the house down the street when able. " He begins to walk west toward Poorda's place. But Uncle Hammerhand stops him. "I'm told this place ..or at least part of this section of town will be developed in a few days. Should we preserve Tiren's place?" The dean turns to the Navigator, "I believe you own this land now?" Hammerhand nods. "Right now we are limited. I did send for help. If you think it best I could leave him here?" He nods to the lone constable. "Since we do not ask this you would have to pay for any wages." The Navigator looks worried, he isn't rich by any methods. He looks to the party for advice. By now the audience has begun to thin out. The dancer teacher and Lental start to whisper as they walk away. The other teachers stop and give Z'leyra a nod of support before they move on. Actions? Comments? Next Update....Monday??? GM: Last night I had 3 hours sleep. I had to get up for something. At midnight I had JUSt finished Recap/Old stuff. The last minute emails/posts took 4 hours (7-8, 9-12). That left 3 hours. I did start on new stuff but brain was fading. This afternoon I'm awake and finished this for now. I was going to do a bit more but I think this is a good place to stop. Now I moved the scene a bit. But I can add Pyan's search before Martin leaves and such. I did it so he can actually do something. :) Trying to get him out of his shell to do a bit more. :) Pyan you see how others do things. I'm not asking for long 500 line posts. But you can add color to your own scenes. Even simple retrospections (inner thoughts, wonderings, etc) are even welcome. Garr/Martin will have some head start. Keep in mind Martin is on foot but Garr is in wagon. Party is all on foot. GM: Arawn - If you intend do add what was not said 'ie the request for someone to stay you can do so. But the uncle sort of did that. But since that would be a critical RP thing I didn't do it via paraphrase. For dice purposes. Fremea - Final thing on wand before I forget. :) Which wand? Sent a few updates ago but guess too busy to see it. GM: I'm sure I'll forget something as I'm brain dead. h! expertise chart. I gotta update that tomorrow sorry. How far time wise next update? Depends on who goes where. I might do as much as 3 hours but it all depends on your reactions. Consider this the Friday update since will be almost late Tuesday before this comes out Not much time to react for a Friday update. Based on posts I'll start to work on Monday's on Saturday afternoon.
