Mine is fine. Kiet's leg, however, looks like it's been vamped. Heehee Kiet will watch Kell's horse closely and check it for any wounds (using his Husbandry skills). He especially on the lookout for any damage to the legs doe to falling into the nest. GM: Ack. I know the feeling on posting to wrong person. :) Been there done that. ------------------------------------------------------------ [New Stuff] [Janaq 10th, 1635TH] [Zen'da Eastern Plains] [Time: 10:35 am] The entire combat lasted only 15 or so seconds. But it seemed to be hours for Kiet and Kell. Adrenaline still flows in their veins and will do so for some time. While Kiet limps along with Kell, not so secretly hoping they would NOT find another &$!#* snake, he tells Kell, "I see our luck hasn't changed." Kiet has taken a rather significant wound from the bite. "I think I will have trouble getting back on my horse with this leg. Would either of you, Z or Arawn, be able to help?" After the search, Kiet asks Z to bind up his wound as best she can. Once done, he walks over to the snake, pulls out his Tulwar, and lops off its head. The weapon, being a curved blade, is an excellent tool for such 'carving'. Kiet spits on the head and says to the group "Anybody here desperate for fresh meat?" He points to the rest of the carcass. "Waste not want not." He rubs his leg then mumbles "Damn! That hurts." With Kiet's horse once again on its feet the druid turned to join Z'leyra by acrobat's side. "What an ill start to our quest," he said, looking to the massive snake lying dead nearby. "But most likely a blessing.' "A dae'ta koti, cunningly foul beasts and one of the Eldest Serpent's spawn. And so close to the village! An unpleasant encounter to be sure but it's a blessing we found it before one of the Zen'da or those in their care did," he said, giving a silent thanks to Payan for guiding the group there. Arawn grimaced when he looked from the massive corpse to Kiet's wound. "Their's is a particularly vile venom for it infects the soul, heading to terrible corruption. You should consider yourself lucky to have us here," he said, referring to Z'leyra and himself. "The effects often go unnoticed until it's too late and some of our most tragic stories involve those that succumb to their venom." "If you wish Z'leyra's potion as well go ahead. But let us know if you're dreams grow dark and troubled as the nights pass. For such things are often a sign that the poison lingers." When Kiet offers up the snake's flesh a meat he shook his head, a somewhat alarmed expression on his face. "No thank you! That thing corrupts souls. Who knows what could happen to those who ate it!" Waluf crosses his arms and walks to the snake. "These things are all over the plains. They sleep at day so the horse must've disturbed it. Eating it would be a bad omen. When I return back this way we can skin it. But that's the only thing we value from it." Arawn continues, "But I'll take a fang, venom sack or skin if your willing and skilled enough to do so. They might prove useful amulets in the future." Waluf shakes his head, "the sac where the poison is can be dangerous. It can react due to temperature and cause skin and item damage. One must be very careful only a few shaman can use it. Even after that the poison goes bad in only a day or two." After helping Kiet and as she gets ready to help the horse Z'leyra responds to his comment about meat. "If we were truly desperate I would partake, but we aren't and I try to avoid eating the bodies of those that are very intelligent. Their spirits tend to frown on that. Yes, though followers of Kotothi, the Dae'ta Koti are thought to be as intelligent as the average human." Waluf turns to Z'leyra and listens. His eyes glitter a bit and those who notice it seem to spot respect. Could this strange woman be a shaman as well? Z'leyra continues, "I am not partial to using poison, though it has its place. Be careful if milking the venom sacs. If you wish to get tooth, skin or bone from the corpse to use in making an amulet or something, be careful to avoid injuring yourself." Waluf raises a hand and nods at the snake, "other Shamans have tried to milk them. The nature...of the beast needs to be alive for the true effects of the poison. Once it leaves the body I'm told it is nothing more than a bee sting." Fremea collects both of her arrows but one is broken so has to be discarded when it hit the tough hide of the snake. She asks about a poison sac as well. Fremea now knows what the warren looks like and should be able to warn the party. If she is flying nearby. It looks like Waluf tried to say something but was too late. Fuk asks and is translated to Waluf about his yelling. Waluf explains it distracts the snakes. It is believed that their nose or ears shake at the sound and is painful. Some have known that snake charmers use music to do the same thing. Kiet checks out Kell's horse as Z'leyra prepares her potions for the wounded. Aside from scratches and a hurt pride the horse is fine. If it was a broken leg it would've been very bad but the horse was able to land in the hole well. Then Kiet realizes that is the leg with the magical horse shoe made by Kell. He wonders if that helped or not? Z'leyra makes her potion from the magical stone and calls the wounded. This will not heal them but at least get rid of the poison. But the effects of the poison will not be fixed for days. The damage to the body will take days to heal. The potion will only stop the poison from doing more damage. ------------- [Janaq 11th, 1635TH] [Zen'da Eastern Plains] The party moves north west again toward the river. The temperatures today range from 23-63 today. IT is cloudy today and cold. [Time: 1:59 pm] It begins to snow as a cold wind tears through the plains. It snows for almost 45 minutes but it light enough to continue riding. In the end only about 1 foot of snow falls. [Time: 3:58 pm] Fremea reports the river is only a few miles away. But as the party moves on the ground is flooded. It may have been the melting snow as the day warms up. The flood is light though since the river is not close. But it is like riding in ankle high water causing splashes and mud. [Time: 6:02 pm] Finally the cold and wet horses arrive at the river. At this location the river spans almost 180 feet. Waluf explains north it should be easier to cross. Z'leyra knows that Kell has his new toy to play with so will wait a few days but if it wastes time will just teleport. As the party gets more water from the river and camp is made a moderate fog forms. It is not thick but you can only see maybe 8 feet around. As a result two sentries are posted while the camp is made. ------------- [Janaq 12th, 1635TH] [Zen'da Eastern Plains - River Sich edge] The party wakes up and waters the horses with the river. The River Sich is flowing fast as the snow seems to melt far to the north east in the hills. The temperature today is 28-68 so a bit warmer. But it becomes overcast with no sign of the sun all day. [Time: 1:40 pm] As the temperature gets above 60 it begins to hail for about 20 minutes. They are marble sized stones so those with helmets or shields use them. As the hail ends though it begins to rain. So the party quickly gets Arawn's tarp out for protection of the horses and party. But it only rains for 15 minutes. But the damage is done with wet horses and wet people. [Time: 5:18 pm] As temperatures get colder it begins to snow. But it only snows for about 19 minutes for 2 inches as it is light. Not enough to take shelter. ------------- [Janaq 13th, 1635TH] [Zen'da Eastern Plains - River Sich edge] Fremea reports the river is showing signs of rapids in this area and very cold so it would be dangerous to cross at this point even though its about 115 feet or so wide. At least the clouds seem to part some making it from overcast to just cloudy. But the temperature is the worst for the 4 days of travel. Going as cold as 11 and only as high as 51. [Time: 9:39 am] The party sees a storm coming from the south west fast. But the party is able to setup tents for the party and the tarps for the horses. Though some do get wet the storm looks long and windy. It lasts almost a full hour making the party lose an hour of travel. The rain pelts the tents and tarps for a long time (56 minutes(. When it finally ends mud puddles and the damp wing is hard to break camp but they must be moving. At least it is not a full hour of snow and only rain. ------------- [Janaq 14th, 1635TH] [Zen'da Eastern Plains - River Sich edge] Z'leyra vows that today they will cross for sure. They have spent some time already trying to find a ford. Waluf explains the Zen'da rarely uses boats or rafts. The river is a natural border so it helps keeps outsiders away. Overcast comes again blocking any hope for a warm sun. The temperatures are 29-69 today. [Time: 4:12 pm] Suddenly winds bring a dust storm from the west. It is odd to see one in winter but the dust must've blown from some where else due to a wind storm. It does not prevent riding though. Just the dust gets in every nook and cranny of the people who are victim to it. [Time: 6:18 pm] As the party makes camp Waluf rides fast back to camp from the north bank. He reports that there is a small area to the north a mile or so that his people do use. It is only 90-95 feet across. At this Kell perks up as that would allow him to use his new toy. "The river can be only 4 feet high maybe 5 feet at this point. But the current is dangerous." Waluf explains. A horse wading water to their shoulders could do it with some talent but there is risk involved. But for now the sun is fading and the party will have to decide that night to cross in the morning. Actions? Comments? Next Update..Monday?? GM: No encounters those days. But now we are at the crossing point marked on the map. So does Kell want to try his toy or teleport? Or Move further north to find a even better spot? Kell - Can use the item twice. But You only have 5 inclusions. So there are 16 horses and people. So you can get all but 6 horse/people there You can do some magic aside from item and get 2 more per spell. So would need at least 3 spells. If my math is correct. So let me know on the plan. Keep in mind though I think your basic spell is not long enough to cross the distance so I think it will be futile. So party will have to figure out which 6 will need to either teleport or not. Might be best to send horses all over then teleport the 6 folks. Kell/others will need to iron this out. I have a family thing Wednesday so had to get this out fast. I doubt will have time to do a Friday update. Sorry. I was also kind of waiting on to see if list came back. (Not Wout's fault). So we'll move on. GM: Healing: I've asked this before but I'll re say it. We have 3 healers in the group. Fremea, Z and Arawn. There also may be magical healing items. When you are damaged to save time let me know who you want to be healed by. Z is probably the best for First aid but for magical healing can be all depending on the amount of damage. I will disclose though that Alex/Z reads updates before it actually goes out. So there is a slight unfair advantage to Z taking that charge. So best to let us know ahead of time. Z/Arawn will always offer but it needs to be clarified so I can do the work. :) Kiet: You said for healing. By whom? Kell: No word on healing? May have been lost or you may have posted it to list and I never got it from the last update? Once I know who heals who I'll do the poison recovery to Will over the above days. GM: Animal byproducts. Let me know what is taken? Meat and such. Anyone else? Keep in mind the comments above on the poison. It could be just barbarian bluster or ignorance but may not know for some time. Arawn - Fang, venom, venom sack, skin Fremea- Venom sack Meat/Venom will take time keep this in mind. There are only 2 fangs and 2 sacs. GM: Experience Chart/Mana Chart: Updated with experience. I will update health/Mana later on once I know above. GM: Wout's site/List is still down for a few more weeks until then you will need to email me any posts. I am not sure that if you CC to the list it will just go away. I've done tests and it bounces. But if you see your post not on MY site or in the Recap section at top then I never got it. This is why I do it on both places to ensure it got to me. I will have to do a email to each player instead of the list for now. So when you do a reply/all and its private be careful. Just reply to me directly if its private. GM: Being modern - I have been looking the last week in my spare time at map makers. I do like Heoxgrapher. It is great for world maps. It can do Icons and rotate them. But we already have maps for that So I need something for encounter maps like this snake. I've not seen icons for trees or bushes or such yet. Just forests and such. There is dungeongrapher but I've not looked at it yet. It seems more for buildings. So I'm trying to find a good map program for encounters outside like the snake thing. I may still do small maps eventually. But for now I have no found such a program. I suppose one could do icons to represent a tree, a rock, a bush. Then for each player use some icon. Since the program can rotate we can figure out facing from there. But doing the icons would be difficult since I'm not a artist. I could do simple things like a A for Arawn then rotate it to show the top of the A as the facing. But seeing a A upside down might be confusing. So I'm open for suggestions. But I'm looking at it now. GM: For future purposes while on plains I'll assume will use Zen'dali if a guide or person like Waluf is with party. If not then will assume Marentian. Unless stated otherwise. GM: Trip Mini IBT: I've edited out the food stuff from advtime.txt and updated the timeline. Inside this file is a chart for me to keep on mini IBT. Let me know what you want to do. Unless at River it will be a plains thing. Unless none specified will use Horsemanship (for Fremea something else like Zen'da?). If private IBT let me know. There is little to do aside from horsemanship (8 or so hours) and camp stuff (4-5 hours). So has to be realistic like no forge work on a horse. :) This file is on my site in links section at bottom "Adventure Timeline/Mini IBT."
